Starting Problems

My 2n got mad when I left her out in the weather. I parked her by the barn a month or so ago. I went out this morning and she will only run when the starter motor is running. When I let off the key it is like I turned the key off. It dies immediately. I can put it on half throttle and it starts running faster but immediately dies when I let the key go to the run position. Any help would be greatly appreciated as she is in the way now and I need to mover her.

So you have it wired wit ha universal type key switch right??? Leaving info out make it hard for us to help you help your self. If my guess is right then you most likely have a switch that has gone bad which is not uncommon. Try as hot wire from the battery to the coil and if it runs then yep bad switch

" When I let off the key"

The key doesn't have anything to do w/ the starter.

Unless you have disabled the neutral safety switch & installed an auto key switch.

Is that what you have on the tractor?

yes slightly important bit of information left out but yes it has an auto ignition switch. I will run the wire and check it out. will post back shortly

Not uncommon for that type of switch to go bad due to being out side in the weather. Had that happen on my D-17 A/C this summer

yep this was the problem. She also started draining the battery at the same time. I rolled the dice when I put your suggestion with the draining battery and the ignition seemed most likely to be the problem for both. Ran down to the parts house and 10 minutes later she was running. I now have her under the shed in her normal spot. She should love me long time now.

Thanks,
