8N spark plug tube

Does anyone know the difference between these two,
one has 4 holes ones has 3, I have quite a few of
both, just really never paid attention to the
difference. Thanks Rod

I was told....FWIW......that one is for a 9N & the other is for an 8N. Of course, I can't recall which is for what model!

Some of the regulars who own both 2N's, 9N's & 8N's will be along soon to clear up my CRS problem.

I have just been doing my plug wires on a 48 8N restoration and my tube has the four holes. However the plug wire routing on the early 8N had number four wire coming out the rear of the tube then three and two use the rearward pair of holes then the most forward hole is for the number one wire. the second hole is skipped.
I suspect the three hole tube came later as a revision and just eliminated the forward most hole and routed number one wire through what was the second hole position.

The Ford parts manual for the 48 and 49 tractor show this routing clearly on the view of the engine assembly from the intake/exhaust manifold side

Last night I was replacing the wire harness and spark plug wires on my '49 8N. In order to pull the old wires out of the wire tube, I removed it. This is the first time I've done that since putting coolant back in the system. Only one of the brackets is still good so I just had to remove the one bolt farthest from the radiator. When I did, I got a green water fountain as coolant started coming out.

I really wasn't expecting that and don't want to crack open this engine if I don't need to. Is it expected that this bolt should be exposed to the coolant or do I have a major problem with my head or block?
