I started going through that list Bruce put on here for me and on the battery cable at the solenoid I have no volts that the meter showed but it still cranks over? This electrical is starting to get confusing for me lol any help is appreciated! Thanks and its a side mount distributor 6v

If it cranks (as in the starter motor turns the engine over) then you have battery voltage.

Put one probe of your meter on one battery post & the other probe on the other battery post.

6.35 volts?

If not, then you have a meter problem. Or an operator problem. :)

If it cranks over you have to have voltage or it would not do so. By the way it will crank over with or with out the key on. I would try a hot wire from the ignition side of the battery to the ignition side of the coil and see if you have a good spark from the coil wire. You need a blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. Also if you have a good spark there check each plug wire for the same type of spark

Thank you both! I will try these it just baffles me that it worked fine till I tried to fix that wire that was in place of the copper piece. Is there suppose to be a washer on the points under the hold down screws?

Yes. Star washers. So what's the problem now? Got battery voltage to the coil? Got spark?

I need to go through the connections again I think I have a short somewhere I thought maybe not having the washers in there would cause the points to short out

Star washers are a type of lock washer to help keep the point form slipping. By the way point gap should be 0.025 and it is also easy to short things out with the condenser wire. If with the key on you open and close the points by hand you should both hear and see a spark at the points. No spark means you have a short some place
