tractor wont move runs great though

was driving 48 8n pushed right brake to turn hard heard a clunk tractor will no longer move gears shift fine drivetrain wont move.I engaged pto at first nothing happened then out of the blue pto started turning arms lifted up but there was grinding noise coming from axle please tell me this is fixable i use this tractor for everything i dont know where to start

Would not be the first time the rivets attaching the ring gear to the differential failed. You can remove the diffy by removing the right axle housing. May be able to reattach the ring gear with bolts or may need a new rear end.

would you be able to see it through the access where the dip stick goes or do you have to remove the entire right axle housing to see it.My rear tires are filled with liquid what is the best way to empty this suff is it safe to let it run into the ground its rotting my rims out anyway tires weigh like 800lbs this sucks i use this tractor for plowing discing spraying for my vegetable business i just got a new carb for it for xmas now its broke in a blink of an eye

Hate to tell you but I agree w the others it sure sounds like your differential failed.

I replaced the one on my Jubilee pretty easy- and that was a part that was hard to find. You'll have it easier as there are more 8Ns around.

On my Jube I could pull the PTO shaft and look in the hole wiht a flash and see what was going on.

Keep that fluid in those tires for any heavy use. And plowing and disking is heavy use. The 44 2N has had fluid from about 46 and did all heavy tillage work on farm including plowing and disking plus combining and corn picking. It also had cement homemade weights put on for the tillage operations and they estimate between 300 & 400# each. Without the weight you will not pull a disk and possibly not a plow.

yes left axle saw it in book i have the fenders off and the wheel off tractor supported it says to unbolt and lift out,how heavy is this thing and can i leave the break assembly on it i have no engine hoist to lift it off .once put back together does the splines of the ring gear have to be lined up wth marks or does it just set back in never took this apart before dont know what to expect

will do ill keep it in, my rims are rotting around valve stems why is this happening looks like the rims will be no good soon due too the liquid, is this stuff calcium mixed in water or something else hopefully not salt water

how heavy was your axle to lift off can i just unbolt it and lift it off myself can i leave break assembly on it they work fine no leaks

if this problem is the ring gear do i get it reriveted somewhere or bolt it on,what grade bolts do you use.i noticed when it happened pto shaft wouldnt turn then out of blue started to turn and 3pt hitch raised then i dropped 3pt down pto still turning raised 3pt wouldnt go back up is this gear tied in wth this system

i looked on yesterdays parts and dont see any ring gears can you still buy something like this new if its damaged all i see are seals and bearings. Can you bolt this ring gear back on and what grade bolt would you need to use, are rivets safer for preventing damage to axle im going crazy thinking about this the clunk i heard was so quick and instantly no more power cant believe this
