I bought a project 8n ford. supost to be a 52 model. don't know much about this tractor. . I did notice it has an oil pressure , amp guage, and odometer. did they ever put a temp guage on them. thanks norm

" did they ever put a temp guage on them"

Nope.

W/ a big radiator & a fan shroud, they seldom overheated. If they did, a 6-blade fan was an option.

The only N's w/ a temp gauge were 2N's that ran dual fuel. When the temp got to "X" degrees, the operator could switch from gasoline to kerosine.

Norm.......the flathead N-Engine hazza domed boss at the front of the flathead that you can drill and tap fer 3/8" pipe. Then gitta 2" S-W temp gauge with 3-ft capillary tube and mount in the dash panel opposite yer "odometer" which is also a tachometer. (otherwize known as "proof-meter) Search fer "Hobo's" drilling instructions.

BTW.......ALWAYS mount a thermostat in upper radiator hoze, pointy end facing radiator.

But to answer yer question; NO, the N-Tractor did NOT come with temp gauge........Dell

P.S......squander $25 (cheap) for I&T FO-4 manual, it even has pictures fer the reading challenged. Suprizingly enuff, our sponsor YesterdaysTractors sells them

Yep, you're right. I forgot that the 8N had a kerosine burner option as well.

They had to start it & heat it up on gasoline. Once the engine got to operating temp (180*, I think) you switched over to kerosine. (or what ever the equivalent was)

I recall my father telling me that during gas rationing in WWII, they would put a quart of gasoline in the tank of an A Model Ford, get it running for a few minutes until it got hot, then fill it up w/ un-rationed kerosine.

Worked fine unless you had to turn the engine off!
