I just got my 2 piece gasket for installing my manifold, gasket is concave on one side and rounded on other side, which side goes against block? or doesn't it make a difference?. also anyone have a good picture of how small spring that keeps rotor in place goes on? don't want to ruin the little thingy. 1953 8n ford. Also use gasket sealer or no gasket sealer> appreciate the time and effort of all advisers

just looked closely at ford shop manual is shows position of cam retainer spring as part no. 24 and below that a cam retainer looks like a split ring, part no. 23 im hoping this is on distributor shaft and isn't prone to come off easily, cant tell till tomorrow hope I don't have to order another part.

I wuz one of just a very small few ebber to git this question rite on the tractor Guru test..

If it has a shinny side the shinny side goes to the manifold,,, It it does not have a shinny side it can go either way... :D

In your case its installers choice

Do yourself a fudgen favor apply a thin coat of permatex ultra high temp copper silicon to both sides of the gasket...

plus one on the high temp sealant

and I know it's 'just' a manifold....
but pretend you are putting a head on a blown big block.LOL
OMG clean and flat, and recheck tightness after warm-up.

Big flamerthrower torch those manifolds have to contain, and on a tractor, intake and exhaust ports....oh so close.

I don't have a clip pic. (flat to flat...clips 'arms' in the shaft grooves)
JMOR has one, but I don't want to link to his stuff without his permission.

The ring should not come off easily, the clip as shown in my FO-4 is upside down. see photo. in the photo, I have the clip slightly loose to show it better.
