8n parts tractor

Last 8N I bought was not running. Needing a rebuild. But complete. Good fenders. Not so good hood. Tires hold air, but dry rotted. One good Hat rim and one good loop. Gave $400 for it. About two years ago.

Around here, scrap price unless there's something special about it.
Are you looking for parts or to fix?
If you're looking to fix it, price tires and sheet metal.

You guys need to live in my part of the country. I have a front mount '48 that would be awesome for a parts tractor or rebuider. Has a sticking valve in cyl #2. I don't want to scrap it, but my worker '49 that has earned every bit of it's "patina" (rust), is the keeper and I need to clear the space. I just need someone to say they want it and then there will be two happy campers. I've dreamed that Lisa lived close enough to come with her trailer and give it a good home.

If you're in my area I'll come get it. email is open I was going to rebuild an 8n to mount the one arm loader. and tore apart 3 tranny's only to find the same gear busted in all three.

Just a question. OK, we go with scrap price. I've not weighed any of my tractors. So I looked up the tractor data. Says weight is 2410 to 4043 pounds. Why such a big variance? They talking about with implements maybe? I don't Know what scrap price is today. But two years ago it was 10 cents a pound. I heard it then went to 12 cents.
When we say 'Scrap Price' are we talking say around $300? Or would you say to take the 2410#s times the todays Scrap Price?

(quoted from post at 22:56:22 12/19/14) 8n every thing is there but tires and sheet matal how much should I offer for it.

just a thought...
a parts tractor without tires, or even bare rims to drag it around on.......is a pain.

scrap price? means different things
usually takes about $500 to make the scrappers/parters drop out at an auction.
private seller....who knows..
could range from almost nothing from a friend that needs it gone,
to a crazy sum from sellers that think an N weighs 5 tons. lol

Then there are cases where scrap price means scrap price.
Friend backed in with his trailer with 2 tractors and some rare
accessories on it on his way to the scrap yard.
Asked me, 'need anything on this load?'
Looked it over, asked how much for it all.
He knows his stuff, calculated the weight, got out his calculator. showed it to me so I knew what he could get.
Gave him an extra hundred for stopping in and we unloaded it.

point of this rambling post?
depends on the seller. You know him, we don't.
base your offer on what you feel.

The difference in the weights is probably wheel weights, auxiliary trans, loaded tires, fluids not implements. Scrap price around here last time I went a couple of months ago was $8 light steel and $9 heavy. An 8n weighs about 2400/2500 and probably considered heavy and then they want to deduct for the rubber and if the tractor weighs more then it should the boys down at the scrapyard are pretty savvy when it comes to loaded tires. So even at $10 a hundred it's only $250. That's why I don't scrap tractors. It's worth more to me to have around and pick parts off of than to send to China.

I sold a parts 2N with a Sherman step-up in it for $200.
Sherman condition was unknown, never drove it, no tires or tin.
Block looked good and engine was not seized.

I bought a parts 8N for $300, poor tires, decent tin, engine
not seized but missing the manifold/carb and generator.
It was pretty obvious that it had a lot of blowby when it was
last ran and I assumed it burned oil. I wanted the hat rims.

Bought a running/working Jubilee with bad tires and a
knocking engine for $500. It had a Sherman Combination
transmission and came with a back blade. I could lift the
blade, drive it around and test it out, so it was worth more.

Just some examples besides saying "scrap" price.

Well, I'm in Seattle area, more Bremerton but nobody knows where Grapeview Washington is. We live on Puget Sound and the salmon have been running, so it might be worth the trip???

I think you are right. In Wilber's case no tin or tires, I'm thinking no wheels either. Hard to load. But if you take a complete 8N needing rebuilt and tires I find it is hard to find one less than $300 unless you have a rod sticking threw the block. Course I think the 'N's are under priced anyway, but I think if you are not willing to pay at least $300 for a rebuildable one in most cases you will be walking away empty handed. I'd say scrap plus 10 or 20 percent. It may also depend on how far the scrap yard is too. Lot of variables. If you need a block and the parts tractor has a good block, that alone could be worth $300 to you. We all know you can do better to part one out. But that in its self is a lots of work.
