crank pully?

I have the front ratchet bolt and timing cover off. It looks like the pulley is pressed fitted on the 8N sidemount. I tried tapping on it and no go. Guess a puller is next? Dang engineer should have put some holes to mount the correct puller so it won't damage the thing getting it off! I hit it with some PB Blaster for good measure. Got to return to work this week. Work a week/off a week. 84 hours for a work week is getting a little long for this old fart

One more thing. When I zipped off the large bolt at the top of the timing cover, of course the oil spring/plunger popped out in my hand. Another part went flying off to the great unknown (you know, the place where all the tiny parts fly off to in your barn/shop, never to be seen or found again!). What was the other part under the bolt?

yes Lisa.......the crank pulley is keyed. CAUTION: the original pulley is sheetmetal center and eazily WARPED. Replacement crankshaft pulleys are now cast iron.

'nutter note: N-fanbelt is unusual 5/8-wide. Most automobile fanbelts are 1/2" or 3/8". .......Dell

Yep mine has a lovely little wobble to it...it will be getting a new one when we redo the rope seals.

All the sm. parts are Jesus Christ parts, when
they fly off I bet you tried to summons him by
calling his name. Just remember (if I remember
right) the cover is aluminum and there are some
alum. threads. On the gov. bolts are important
not to cross them up one is longer then the other
and can really cause you a problem, been a while
so I am relying on a my wore out brain parts.

If you have the plunger and spring in your hand...
the part that went flying was probably a 'shim'
added by a previous owner in a mis-guided attempt to boost oil pressure.
Leave it where it flew...

(I'm getting a little rusty on my N stuff. If this post is in error, someone correct me and I'll edit it)

gwstang.......know all about them flyers. (grin) Iff'n I remember correctly, that flyer was a flat COPPER washer used as a SEAL.

As I reminded LisaK, the crankshaft pulley was a sheet metal center disc that is eazily BENT. Replacement pulleys are now castiron. And iff'n it were me, I wouldn't bother replacing that hand-crank'em ratchet bolt. I'd use a regular nut. (5/8-18 x 1-5/16 hex) Oh yeah, ya gotta use a 3/4" drive DEEP Socket to clear them ratchet teeth. (rent one at NAPA) .......Dell

Check out the oil pan bolt holes in the front cover GOOD most all I have ever messed with strip out when I assemble it  I heli-coil them all now good are bad...

I do know about the differences for the long/short bolts and how the wrong one in the wrong hole will chew up the cam gear. I labeled them as I removed and placed in a separate bag.

I noticed the front pan bolts are a bigger size than the side rail bolts. They were good n snug so I hope they are ok.
