OT: part identity on international 240

Was over on the IH site to ask for help on a tractor part but did not get much response so hoping some one here knows.

My buddy just picked up and IH 240 and is trying to clean her up. Has service manual on order but was asking if I knew what the part in this picture is. He took the picture while standing on the right-hand side towards the front of the tractor seems like it's a fluid reservoir of sorts. It sits right in front of the distributor cap just behind the radiator.

Seems like as I was writing this thread someone answered it on the international site. It seems to be The reservoir that the engine oil is added to before it flows down into the oil pan.

Kind of an odd set up with think that there is more to it though.
 
IH C-123 engines, serial #65001 and up, have that engine oil filler cap protruding from the governor.

Prior tractors to that engine serial # had a hole in the hood for access to remove the engine breather from the valve cover to add engine oil.

Not SURE, but I'll bet there's no hole in his 240's hood over the breather in the valve cover.
