Engine Oil Drain Gasket 8N Part 2

In my first post I said I had to put a rotary file in my drill press and open up the I.D. a little to get the gasket on the drain plug.
Well, today I received a new drain plug and two new gaskets from Steiner. The plug came with a gasket on it but it was not all the way on. I was able to screw it down over the threads though. I could not do this with the gasket I complained about in my other post.
The gasket that came with the new plug was a tan colored gasket. The two extra gaskets I ordered were a black material and those just slipped nicely over the threads.
I guess it just depends on where you order your parts. I also got a nice new oil breather cap with an extra filter for it.
At least now when I do my next oil change I know I won't have to screw around with anything. I'll just put in the new plug.

CaryC,
So much of this stuff is coming from overseas where they've likely never heard of an N so different gaskets don't surprise me.
In a way it's making people relearn how to fix things to make them work instead of just being parts changers.
Bad for them for not being able to make a simple gasket right. But good for you for using your head (and rotary file) to fix it.
I would have just used the one you fixed but if you got some good ones all the better.

I did use the one I fixed. That was a couple days ago. I just got the new plug and gaskets today.

I just cut one from gasket paper, the thick
cork/rubber stuff. I have a set of dividers that I
use to trace the two circles with and cut them with
scissors. lha

I know how to make gaskets. I made enough of them in the service. I'd rather just buy them as long as they fit.

A pack of 5 are 10 are how ever they come would break some I recon... I would think folks would keep some of the basic maintenance parts on hand... I get a buck fifty a min. for my time how many gaskets will I have to cut to make a profit

Hobo you know that's a trick question and you won't get me that easy

Depends on the number of units/minute you can produce ;-)

Hmmm...I doubt that the people who actually make gaskets make a buck fifty a minute.

Depends on the number of units/minute you can produce.. I am thinking if I hire someone and pay him a buck fifty a min I can make a go at it... :D... With both of us hard at it we could do well... One of use anyways...

Sum SOB will make a punch press and knock'em out for penny's and ruin my dream...

I don't have a issue with folks making there own BUT MAN UP AND BUY SOME DESCENT GASKET PAPER....
