Mystery Hole

I'm in the final stages of my first rebuild. I had this 9n engine at the machine shop for hot tanking and having the crank turned and then I did the rest. All this time of tinkering on this thing I never noticed this hole in the side of the block until I started to paint it. The hole is about 3/8" and it looks to be fine thread. I could not find anything in the manuals showing what would go in here...any ideas? Thanks Dan

Dan.........would you believe that is the "original" oil filter return??? Just straight down from the bottom of the filter can. Howsomevers....while it worked well, Ford found out that the centrifugal advance balls needed more oil. And that is on the other side of the block. So Ford re-routed the oil return line to the dizzy. Yer hole needs a threaded brass plug.......HTH, Dell

Big Dan, Dell is right. However I have 4 9Ns without an oil line to the governor and the governors all appear to be original and work just fine!

Mine goes to the block too.

Is it recommended to re-route into the back of an older gov?

I have four of them with no oil line to the
governor (it is splash lubed). They all work fine.
Of course I don't plow 20 acres a day with them
either.
