This is the problem I had while tiring to cut grass last summer. With mower deck set to height and pto engage the lift arms would raise until I had to shut down because deck would hit rear wheels. I took complete hydraulic system apart and cleaned system and changed fluid. Pto and lift work put have not hooked up mower deck. Any ideas before I do this, most likely will not do till next spring

On what model tractor? The hydraulic systems are different depending on the model.

What's your question? Are you asking for advice on how to fix the problem? Or, have you already " took complete hydraulic system apart and cleaned system and changed fluid."?

" Any ideas before I do this," Do what? Hook up the mower?

Well like Bruce says, what tractor? 9 and 2Ns do not have position control. The lift is either all the way up or down. 8Ns have position control, but the little lever on the right side has to be up for position control. Otherwise you are in draft mode and will either be all the way up or down. If there internal lift mechanism is worn or out of adjustment position control will not work reliably. There are fixes. Let us know what you have.

I don t know if fixed because have not hooked up mower
I did drained, removed top, inspection covers and pto shaft, cleaned out gunk refilled with new oil
Pto turns and lift goes up and down
If lift is either full up or full down how do you adjust the position of mower deck?

there should be limit chains on sides of pto.they connect to the lift arms they can be adjusted to stop lift from going too high

" I don t know if fixed "

There was nothing to fix. It wasn't broken. You have a 9N. It does not have position control. (see tip # 58 at the link) As HCooke said, " 9 and 2Ns do not have position control. The lift is either all the way up or down. "

" If lift is either full up or full down how do you adjust the position of mower deck?"

You get a jig from Zane Sherman: http://www.bramblett.com/zane/

You might want to invest in a set of manuals for the tractor before you try fixing something else that isn't broke; see tip # 39 at the link.
