8n steering wheel

I bought a replacement steering wheel for my 8n. it could use a paint job? to look better. Do you recommend painting the new wheel or not? It looks a little rough in terms of casting flash that could or should be trimmed? Bill in MI
 
My experience with painting a steering wheel is it wears off pretty fast.
As to the casting flash, that depends on whether you have a desk job or you work with your hands.
Those of us who are hard handed will wear that off pretty fast.
I don't like leather covered steering wheels in pickups as I wear them out in a couple of years.
 
Bill..........TRIM the flashing cast. You may find a FILE a better tool than a knife. Don't bother painting yer steering wheel 'cuz it'll wear right off. I wear leather gloves 'cuz my bride of 32-yrs prefers soft hands when handlin' her knockers. (grin)........handy Dell
 
i agree, dont paint the wheel it wont last and you remember how your hands got when you drove a old tractor that had been sitting out in the sun for some time, all black, if you paint it, your back to that
 
I bought a replacement steering wheel for my 8n. it could use a paint job? to look better.

I can't figure out if you picked up a new USED wheel or a brand new one, because you are are saying it could use painting. (?)

I straightened my bent and aging wheel and stuffed all the cracks with Devcon Plastic Steel where it needed it most for strength and the rest, mostly on the underside, with bondo. It was the spinner that chewed the wheel and spokes up. Because the Devcon is a dark grey, I didn't feel the need to paint over any of it cause it is hardly noticeable.

I know that the steering wheel material is supposed to travel further up the spokes a little but I don't much care about that part. The black Valspar on the spokes is nice and hard.
