Hi all, I just posted this topic up on the Tractor Talk board, and I was wondering if you guys would be willing to check it out? Thanks very much! Bryce

"Well, I drained all of the Hydro Trans stuff out, and poured 4 gal of 80-90. It is just Harvest King stuff from Big R, nothing special, but it is thick!"
I fired the tractor up, and it still does the same thing, but maybe not quite as bad.. If the arms are ALL THE WAY down, and the tractor is idling, with me sitting on the lift arms, someone can hit the lift lever and go all the way up with it.

The arms will shoot up about %20 of the way correctly, and then all of a sudden they just stop, and you can feel/hear a pulsing and the arms will continue to pulse slowly to the top, and I mean SLOW..."

Well 80w90 oil is going to be much slower than 134D oil. Pulsing signifies to me that there is a problem with one of the valves in the pump. When you have it apart adjust with Zane Sherman jig and replace the pressure relief valve. If there is oil leaking from above might as well replace the piston and rings. New gaskets all around and no gasket sealer on any of the gaskets.

Well, I haven't looked that closely at it.. Could that be a problem with it? Not getting enough oil?

Like I say, it works fine at first, then all of a sudden it hits a certain point and it just doesn't want to go??

The lady is only going to use it a little bit, so I probably won't replace the piston and rings and stuff, but if I get the pump fixed and working correctly, and it is still very weak, then I probably will....

Hcooke probably has the better advice I just remember reading somewhere that somnes pump was having problems due to sump sludge build up

If you are going to go to the trouble of dropping/fixing/overhauling the pump then you definitely want to make sure the lift cylinder is working properly too. Not that much more effort and not very much in parts. I really think your problem is the lift cylinder, I would start with that and see if it takes care of it before I messed with the pump.

......... and change out the pressure relief valve also - many posts about this subject too.

Hope that there wasn't water in the oil at one time or another, and it froze and cracked the pump somewhere.

It does happen. There are lots of possibilities.
