Original Bumper

For a bumper with crooked brackets that you won't get to hang
square. That would be worse than not having a bumper at all!

I'm not 100% certain because I cannot see the mounting ears well, but I believe that the pictured bumper is a Sparex reproduction.

I have both OEM N series bumpers and the riveted Sparex reproduction. The Spares is much closer to the OEM design than other bumpers but easily identified by the trained eye.

That pic is not an OEM bumper...the bars are thicker metal....OEM bumpers had thinner bars on all but the big center one like this picture. That one is a nice reproduction but not worth the asking price. I gave $200 for my OEM.

Your pictured bumper is the next generation of the Ford Tractor accessory bumper. It would be correct for the NAA, & 100 series era. Cant see enough of the advertised bumper to verify it as being an original Ford Tractor 8N bumper but it sure looks good from here.

As Gaspump said, yours is an original NAA-up bumper, not an 8N bumper. The one pictured in the Craigslist ad is an original Dearborn for the N tractor. Overpriced, but original.

Yours is actually more rare and thus more valuable than an original N Series bumper.
The price you paid was less than average.
I saw one go for $290 at Palmer Fossum's auction and my pal Kenny sold one last year for $275.
I put it on craigslist for him and it sold in about 2 hours.

The contact on this one on CL is Loren Fossum

Nothing original about my after market one but I think the lines of it really suit the tractor. I much prefer it over the ones with the big car bumper-like main bar.

I notice that all the original ones have only one mount point and because of my ballast hanging there, I like my 2-bolt mounts.
To replace the two mount bolts on the tractor's right, I had to loosen the bolt holding the axle halves together so as to align the bolt holes to get the proper sized bolts through. I haven't done the left side yet.

I caught it..I see his stuff posted on cl quite often. I bought an original tire pump..the one that screws into the spark plug hole from him last winter. Think I paid 50 for it or so..that was off the fb page so maybe he asks more for stuff on cl. I always wondered what he wanted for the stuff he listed.

I have been collecting these bumpers for over 30 years and have 20+ of them in various conditions of extremely rough to very pristine. I also have 2 of the Jubilee bumpers and one that I gave my son for his Jubilee. For most I have paid $50 or less. Some I took off a tractor before reselling it. Recently I sold a nice one to a friend, who has a late 8N, for $75. He was ecstatic.

I think you might have bought one or two of those from me. I just sold this one to a guy in Arkansas, $100 plus shipping.

They can bring good prices, but $300 is a bit much.

That seems very reasonable John. I got mine when I took my damaged swimming pool in along with some heads to the scrap yard. I saw a 9N/2N in the back and traded my scrap load for the bumper. It looks just like the one in your picture.

I wanted to add an original but didn't want to go with the high prices that I saw. Anyhow needed to protect the front pump more than for looks.

So this past summerI built my own in a few hours with a little bending and flat stock I had laying around.
Back brace is a one piece 1/2" x 3" flat stock and the front is 3/8" x 4" flat stock.

Was hauling logs out of the woods this weekend. Set the parking brake and was hopping off the tractor to chain up a log when I hit the brake pedal and disengaged the brake. She rolled forward about 5 feet and hit a tree dead on. The bumper saved my pump, the tree saved my tractor and the bumper retained its shape. So I know the bumper works for minor bumping.

Nothing like in-the-field testing of your fine creation even though you must have felt like the crash test dummy.
:D

No...Just a plain a$$ dummy for hitting the brake pedal.

I thanked God the rest of the day for having my son and I get into an argument earlier that day and him telling me to go haul wood myself otherwise he coulda been standing there.
