Dearborn Removal Question

Just removed the Dearborn Lift assembly from my 49 8N. What do you do you have to do about the hydraulic pump shaft that remains loose in the front end?

Most are a simple spline shaft that you just pull out. Wear can make them bit hard to pull but should still pull out. So if you can wiggle it it is a spline shaft. If it will not wiggle then it is threaded and screws out back wards of the way the engine rotates

Old.... I never messed with one... but it seems that turning the shaft THE SAME WAY as the engine turns should LOOSEN it... Turning it backwards should tighten it...

Or do I have this wrong~~~~~

Just askin'............

Backward of the way the engine turns is so when running the shaft stays tight if I am thinking correctly but either way it will come out in such a way that the engine running and pressure caused by the pump action will keep it tight and in many that is way tight since it has been run that way for years

You have it correct. If the shaft is threaded it will be a left hand thread in the crankshaft hub. Viewed from the front the engine rotates clockwise and the counter-clockwise pump resistance (drive shaft torque) would cause a right hand thread to unscrew itself from the hub.

Thanks to all. Shaft was reverse thread out of hub.
