Rear wheel nut

Replaced rear wheel bearing on the 8 this morning. How do you get 450 ft.# of torque on the wheel nut? Big pipe on breaker bar?

I have a 2 ft 3/4" breaker bar. I weigh just under 200 lbs.

I slap a 2" socket on the thing and stand on the end + one good bounce.

450 ft-lb = 2 ft bar X 200 lb guy + one good bounce.

Close enough...

Then you have to worry about getting the safety wire lined up. :D

Dale.......like JC sez, one good bounce.......howsomevers, iff'n yer sphincterly challenged, you can usually RENT a 3/4" drive, 600ft/lb torque wrench from yer local NAPA parts store ...or... other rental emporiums. Bottom line, you can NOT gittchur 8N's 2-in axlenut too tite. And NO, you will NOT strip yer axle threads, but you could strip yer axlenut. .......too tite Dell

Well did the one bounce method, 2'x220+/-= close. Now safety snap ring is about 1/2 way in between locks. Bounce a little more. Close but still not there don't dare bounce no more!

Bounce a little more after some use.
You'll want to check it anyway, and it may just line right up.

BTDT. 3/4 breaker bar, piece of 4 foot pipe or as others have said. One thing I would add is, do not assume old nut or old axle threads are in great shape (don't ask how I know). Also, if your hub splines are badly worn it can still be loose (wobble) after tightening to 450 ft./lbs. because the washer is bottomed out on the axle shaft and not the hub. A badly worn hub will then wear the axle shaft and internal seals etc.

Hey Dell..which "axlenut" you talking about?

Hope not the one that gets affected when you are trying to jump on the breaker bar and you accidentally slip and come down spread eagle?
