Was at my farm yesterday at 4, went by at 230 today, and the main entrance gate has been stolen!!!

Good thing they didn't steal any other as I'd have cows out... #$&&):+ theives...

Not much lower than a dirtball their.

That S U C K S.

It was a real headache when our house was broken into last year.

Scrap metal must be pretty high in FL right now.

Sorry SOBs...here they even pull up the installed fence T-post & steal those! Some will steal anything! :x

You might have to electrify the next gate Chris.Nothing worse than a thief. People now days have no respect for property. Hope you have Insurance to cover it.

I'm thinking it may be scrappers, I'm going to go chain the other front gate to both hinge and side posts in effort to prevent casual grab and go and loose cows. I know a bolt cutter cuts chain, but hoping it was an impulse steal. Back of the property I have a segmented panel coral, lotsa $$, makes a bug round pen...

Gates are pricey. One not very heavy gate cost me near 300 bucks for the 16' and I need 6 more. when I put it on I realized the hinge points are welded on so I bought bolt on hardware and installed the one closest to the road with the hinge pins pointing toward one another so the can't just lift it off. the neighbors think i'm crazy because that gate had to be installed backwards to accommodate the hinge hardware. I can;t afford to give these gates away at that price.

Everywhere on this farm there was old "stelco" gates. 1" schd pipe with fence wire on them and 1/2" pipe middle supports.
They are all 50 years old and nobody makes them anymore.

So I sent a drawing out last week to a bend and weld shop, it will cost me barely 100 bucks each to make the stelco gate copies and I can add my own fence wire too. Hopefully they last 50 years too... I just found the same kind of hardware at a supplier in Quebec so i'm happy to not buy those store bought ones any more and the local steel guys and bend shop will appreciate the business. I'm going to go around and see if anybody else wants any like it and get them done at the same time.

I always install the hinges like that. Keeps the horses from lifting the gates off. (Besides, they'll scrap 'em for cash if they thought they could get away with it...)

My jbolts did face, the must have listened the top movable hinge, bottom one is welded.

Thinking about it, they got a rolling wheel too. Argh

Brought tools then I guess they were ready and knew what was there.

Don't remember if I told you guys about my nephew's house burning (gutted inside) back in June? Since then, trifling, sorry S.O.!!'s have stolen scrap metal from the shop and yard!! First time his brother caught them and couldn't get the law there in time. Dispatcher said if they were trying to leave, he couldn't hold them against their will!! He found the truck later, got a cop to the place and I.D.'d one of the thieves. They wouldn't arrest the guy on hearsay!! The second time they left an empty beer can and a cigarette lighter that hopefully some prints can be gotten off of!Criminals got more rights than decent folks!!

Agree with it being scrappers. I have a few old blades from road graders and used one in a fence along the road, and they must have thought it was easily removed, and came up missing. Not too long ago someone dumped an old mattress along the road. This was in sort of side road, and one day I stopped and set the mattress on fire....wife asked why I was doing that, and I told her if I burned off the flammables, the scrappers would take the metal spring, and frame. It disappeared within a short time.

Nothing worse than a thief, hope they catch them at the yard.

I called a guy who was selling a house to see what the price was.
The siding had all been removed, small parcel, so I thought
maybe it was cheap.
When I talked to him he said his neighbor had sold for $500K
and he was hoping for the same out of his 3 acres.
It is in an area that is building up quickly right now.
I asked him about the siding, he said the house was vacant
and some guys backed in with trucks and tools and stole the
aluminum siding off of it! Broad daylight. There were several
witnesses, but none of them had any real details. Guys working
on a vacant house in an area where they are being torn down
and replaced with stores, nobody thought anything of it.
He said he was insured, but he was still not a happy camper!

Gates sell really fast on CLs. If it's just a standard gate from a farm store you would have a hard time proving it was yours.
The ad below ran on CLs for several months a few years ago. I saved it in the chance someday I might see the gates. Had the pictures saved with it. But they no longer come up. They were really beautiful Plasma cut gates that probably cost several grand to make. My guess is they never did get them back.
Sorry for your loss.

"Some THIEVES stole Two Gates (fabulous One-of-a-Kind Metal Art Gates) and Three HUGE Metal Statues (a Bear, an Elk and a Cougar) from the entry to our new subdivision at the corner of Highway 86 and Highway UU in Blue Eye, Missouri, in the early morning hours while responsible folks are in bed sleeping and preparing to go to work the next day. But beware thieves; you were caught on tape on our security cameras. So if you don't want to go to Jail, RETURN THE GATES and STATUES NOW AND WE WON'T ASK ANY QUESTIONS. IF YOU DON'T RETURN THEM, WE WILL PROSECUTE TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW. "

Friggin' punks! Maybe set up a trail camera too in hopes they return and try again and you can get them on film and if real lucky, a license plate number. I have a friend who is a retired Federal Marshall in a state out west and he sent me photos a few years back of several inner city/gang banger types, young punks, trying to steal copper wiring and such from electrical panels and boxes for homes and businesses only to find out the hard way that they were still 'live'. You needed a strong stomach to view the photos, know what I mean???

Small update:

Went out this am after the farier left. Out up a Georgia gap in place of the cow fat in case they come back, with no gate to steal, I hope the cows will stay in at least.

Neighbor came over and said they say the tree trimmers the POW co used, and saw them poking around another neighbors boat.

Called the low co, waiting for a callback.

that was just lazy policework on their part. If they had wanted to detain them they would have found a way! Plus if they recover stuff they try to sell it through the police auctions unless you had it marked so good they couldnt ignore it. Just name wont do. I used allis chalmers orange on mine to identify it. But none was ever fpound. and was told too late by a neighbor that he thinks his son did it but he was already in a diabetic coma before his death. I forgot to go check the police auctions. There was a bait and tackle store that had shotguns that got stolen and the police recovered them without telling the owner. Fortunatly a friend had checked outthe stuff on an upcoming police auction and told her. SHe had serial numbers so they gave them back.
