Oil the starter shaft?

The usual advice here seems to be not to oil or grease the starter
drive, but I notice Steiner's directions say to oil the starter shaft
with 10W.

Any thoughts?

If you think that the drive needs to be lubed use this.Dry lube ,clutch dust and grime wont stick like it does on oil or grease.Also great for many other uses.

I failed months ago to convince anybody, quite the contrary, that Amsoil MP leaves an even lighter than graphite, DRY OXIDATION-STABLE FILM with film strength, after the wet carrier evaporates.

I sold cases of it to major bike shops because the oil film that it leaves on chains doesn't pick up road dirt -- because the oil film is much dryer than any oil. And they were amazed by it's rust cutting prowess.

No I'm not an Amsoil dealer. :x

But the no oil at all for the bendix shaft, will remain the supreme word, I suppose.

The lower link arm balls would be another good application of the dry graphite lube. I'll have to get some.
I use MP there and it keeps the balls looking oiled but dry.
"Pinballs" :D

wet oil is going to do 2 things, provide drag. and pickup dust and wear particles.

I'd go with a dry spray lube.

I silicone mine when i pull em.

I have a Kohler Magnum engine. Part of the annual maintenance is to clean and lubricate the starter shaft. Supposed to used special Kohler lubricant.

Keep in mind solenoid engaged starters move the drive gear out by positive force, our prior models don't, they rely on spin out
