[b:629d8a1645][i:629d8a1645]If..(.like we are here, in our little town).....use to power outages, from downed trees, falling across power lines, and other problems brought on by the weather.....you may want to check the garage/work-shops for damage done, when the power comes back on!!!!!!!
Nothing wrong with using mag. heaters, on the 'N' block, to keep it from freezing up, or to make the engine start easier, when the cold warrants it!!!!!
I have used the Mag. heater for just that, for many yrs., with NO problems!! BUT....everyone should be aware of the power surges, when the power comes back on!!!!

This mag. heater took a good bump thru it.....just too many hrs. of use????? (4-5 yrs) with this one.

Electrical outage......Check yer work shops!!!!!!!

Before un-plugging something like this.......KILL the power to it!!!

NOT the Safety Police......just sayin'!!!!

Hi Gary.
Engine heaters in general can be dangerous.
I bought this tractor a few years ago just as it sits.
The PO had plugged it in and then went to town to run a few errands. On the way home he followed the fire truck right to his own machine shed.
They got it out just as the fire was licking away at the rafters.
The cause: a faulty block heater.
It didn't hurt the tractor but it sure made a mess of things and required a lot of new/used parts to get it running again..
I'm always leery about plugging in an engine heater or even a trickle charger if the tractor is inside.

I'm partial to lower radiator hose heaters, and I'm trying a mag heater this year as well to help loosen the gear oil a bit. So far so good, but it really hasn't gotten cold here yet....maybe -5F.

I have, in the past, used a pan full of coals from the stove set under the engine. That's pretty risky, though.

Looks like you have released all of the magic smoke.
Obviously it will not perform its magic without magic smoke! :)

Power surges are just part of life for a plug-in gadget and they should be designed to withstand them. No excuse for them melting down.

If that was my heater, I'd email a copy of that picture to the manufacturer and ask them what the hell. They are making a dangerous product! Of at least maybe you can find out how to reduce changes of it happening again.

(writes Kyle nervously, having just plugged in the heater on his 8n for the first time this year)

(quoted from post at 10:09:07 11/21/14) Sort of makes me glad I do not need them here! How about a dryer? I could use one of those!
