2N with postion control

'46 2N with postion control, took the top plate and pump from a 48 8N and made the swap. The 8N was formerly a backhoe and is now a parts tractor, the 2N has been is the family since new, undergoing a "rejuvanation", not really a restoration cause i do plan to use it, as well as take it to a few antique farm equipment shows, figured the hydraulic "upgrade" would be a nice touch, never seen anyone else try it. One note, if anyone else does this, theres a small piece of casting on the right side (internally) that has to be removed, on the 8N you can see where they cut it out for the linkage to clear. I am painting it the correct dark grey once it warms up again.

Sounds like an excellent way to go since you have all the parts,
Let us know how it all works out!

Should work like a charm. I'll probably do the same
to my '46 2n come next summer. I've even heard of
people using an 8n pump and a 2n top cover. You'll
get the position control but won't be able to switch
to draft control.

Glad to see this post. My 8N has a 2N top cover on it so it has no position control lever. However, I do have position control. I guess the previous owner needed a new cover and just used what he had on hand.

I have position control but just can't switch to draft control. Most people just don't want to believe that I have position control simply because I don't have that little lever.

I guess they think I'm just too stupid to know what position control is.

I hope it works out well for you.

I have done it ware the thickest welding gloves you can find and the best respirator you can get your hands on... John Smith filled me in on what I needed to dispose of...

I did this and a bunch of other things for a local tree co. in the last 3/4 years... I told him we would trade it out when I had built up enuff credits to come over and trim my tree's.... He sent 5 guys over today with his equipment and gotter done....

(quoted from post at 02:25:49 11/19/14) Had one on my 2N now for 8-10 yrs and never tried it..Do they really work??

Zane thing? YES, it does work! I've had one on my 9N ever since Zane invented it.

(quoted from post at 05:52:38 11/18/14) You can have position control for the 9N/2N a lot
easier and cheaper by getting one of my Zane Thang
position control devices and put it on the tractor
in a matter of minutes without changing any part
of the original parts.

The one I coveted had a busted pump and lift cover issues... They have a barrel full of money and I obliged...

Zane Thang? I have two. Sure they work!

Yep. I like the Zane thang.
There is one 'original' part changed. The bolt/pin on the yoke knuckle to accommodate attachment has to be longer, and therefore a different bolt is required, but who's 'really' got an all original 9N/2N anyway.

Everybody on this forum seems very happy with the Zane Thang and if I had a 2N or 9N I would try one myself.

But I'm sure a lot of those old "farmerizations" took place because the ol' boy used whatever he had on hand to get a tractor in working order, as I'm sure happened in my case. Probably not because someone decided to see if the position control would work on a 2N.
