Hp pavilion g7..windows 8.1 64 bit....it updated Friday and I couldn't get the internet page to load...just says waiting...so reset the wireless box restarted the dang thing a few times..no luck...Saturday husband restored it back to before it updated and it worked fine. Well it updated again today I had no choice but to let it. Didn't have the option to stop it...internet page won't load...none...called hp they said I have to sign up for some stupid program at $50/mo for tech support or pay $99 for 1 time of troubleshooting....I asked them where their free tech number was they didn't have one... So I managed to p*ss the guy off and got hung up on. Any idea what I need to do to fix it? WiFi is connected strong so that's not the issue...I can check for updated drivers cause I can't access the web

You might try removing the updates one at a time until its fixed.
They would be in Control Panel, under Uninstall a Program.
Click the View installed updates link.
To keep that one from installing again you can "Hide" it.

Whoo got it!!! It was an update called Hotfix for Microsoft windows...it was the first one I picked cause I didn't see that in previous updates...Thanks Royse!!

You beat me to it, but I'll say it anyway.

When I got my first computer it had 98SE on it. Worked really good, until I started getting updates. Seemed like every time it updated I would have to spend hours sometimes "fixing" things that weren't broken before the updates. In the years since then I have done two things:

I disabled the automatic updates, and quit using Internet Explorer. I don't have to fix things that the updates messed up now.

I am still using XP Pro on my laptop. I did install service pack 3 but that's all I have done and it works great so far. I use Firefox or Chrome, never Explorer.

Also, you should be able to go into windows settings and uncheck the "auto- updates".
Yes you could, but I would not recommend that.
It is always best to have the latest security patches installed.
I would actually be looking for the reason that one patch broke
the machine to begin with. Google will probably know within a
day or so. It may just need to be installed manually.

Windows updates are not at all like they used to be.
They have nothing to do with Internet Explorer unless they are
a specific update to IE. They don't even use IE to install anymore.
They haven't since Windows Vista came out years ago.

I wonder if I switch to chrome instead of ie...I still have no idea what the hotfix for Microsoft windows update is even for. At least now I know the next time it updates and doesn't work.

Lisa, feel free to email me and I'll help you get
that update installed correctly. That's what I do
for a living so I'm confident we can fix it.

email sent. It wouldn't let me attach a pic so here's the downloads it did and the one I uninstalled. Thanks Royse

The museum video? No.
The one Ken posted from YouTube worked,
but your DropBox gives me a 404 error.
My own DropBox is still working.

No Lisa....was asking Royse if he was able to see the video I posted from my Model T ride from Greenfield Village......However....glad you showed me that one.....you really have to stop cutting your gasoline with water...LOL

Ah, don't worry about that carb. It'll buff right out!
But I would check those floats for leaks after cleaning
that much crud off of them! :)
