45 2N sector alinment

I found out after getting hood and gas tank tank painted and
installed I didn't get my steering sectors meshed right and they
are too far forward to put tie rods on. I tried the method in the
manual of putting the left all the way back and right all forward,
and it does release the right side, but even with the left all the
way back I cant get them to mesh pointing back far enough.
Any other ideas to try before removing the hood and pulling up
the steering column?
Thanks
Corey

I have a bunch of 9N/2Ns and I have retimed several of these steering boxes by the method you have tried and I have never had to remove the steering column. Not sure what you will accomplish by doing that.

Thats exactly what I thought, I think I must be doing something wrong or looking at it wrong.
I took it apart during restoration, installed new bushings and replaced rope seals, cleaned and checked shaft bearings.
Checked sector teeth and gear on shaft for wear.
Is it possible to put the sector gears in backwards?
I am using the same tie rods so they are the right length, and I rebuilt front end, but I'm sure the front axle arms are in the correct position, with wheels straight ahead the opening for the tie rod end is directly over the pin for the radius arms.
Any ideas?

"Is it possible to put the sector gears in backwards?"

I suppose. The right and left sectors are different. When aligned the sector arms should point to the foot pegs when the steering is centered.

One of the last times I had to re-align my '46... I did not pull the hood... I just pulled the sector bolts and lifted everything up... just far enough to re-orient the arms. Put the bolts back in and use the tractor. Seems it only needed to come up maybe a half inch. Your call....

duey I need your help explaining that a little better. Last week I ran into a post with my 9n and knocked the wheel a couple or three teeth out of wack. Could explain exactly how I can reset that right steering arm......I understand you said loose the hold down bolts and lift the top unit up a half inch but you must need to at least take the hood off..........
