Dearborn sicklebar

I just bought a 14-16 sickle bar mower, it came with all the brackets except for the lift extension arms. Are these arms absolutely necessary or can I make do without them? I have yet to accually hook it up to the tractor or else I guess I would know the answer. I am an ironworker by trade so it wouldn't be an issue for me to fab something up but I would rather not have to take them on and off with the mower if I don't have to. Thanks for any info on this. BTW, I have the operators manual for it and it says not to attempt to use the mower without the extension, I just can't figure why. Thanks again

You need the extensions.
They would be very simple to fabricate.
On your 3 point you have the lower lift arms that the impliment hooks to, then you have the lift links that go up to the upper lift arms.
Take a look at the knuckles (for lack of a better term) where the lift links hook to the upper lift arms. Now think of those knuckles being about 8" long. That's what you need.

UD,would you happen to have a picture? I believe that I took a pair of those off of a customers tractor.

I was on my wife's Mac Air last night and still can't figure out how to use the bloody thing to cut and paste.
Here is a photo from Ed Gooding's collection of manuals on the other N site.
Those links usually bring a pretty penny on Ebay.

What are the 2 transfer rod brackets (#3) for on the fender, my 2n has them I thought they were for a hand crank I guess not. the tractor was a road side mower (State of Vermont) originally,so now it makes more sense.

The transport rod (not transfer) is the rod that comes with the mower, to hold the mower bar in the vertical position for travel. on rear mount mowers such clips are often provided on the mower itself so there is not reason for extra clips on the tractor.

I have a set of them stashed away somewhere that I probably wont be able to find..a case of putting something away so I know where it is...but forget....am I correct that they could be used in correlation with a finish mower?

Some where on this site YT....someone has send in a sketch and dimensions of the LIFT ARM EXTENSTIONS.....archives.....but where to locate them?

Came across this info on the INTERNET: SUPPLIED by 135 guy 04-21-2011
A few weeks ago there was a post requesting the dimensions of the lift arm extensions and top link extension bracket for the Dearborn 14-15 or 16 sickle mower. My brother restored one of these mowers so I thought I would post the dimensions as the question comes up once and a while. It seems these mowers are often sold without the new owners being aware that there are 4 important parts needed to be mounted on the tractor for the mower to operate properly and are often missing. My brother had to locate all of the brackets and manufacture one of the lift arm extensions. These mowers are somewhat disjointed so my brother made a wheeled support frame that it sets on which makes attaching it to the tractor much easier. I have a pdf of the mower manual if anyone desires a copy.

Thanks for all the info fellas! Looks like I'll have another little project on my hands, shouldn't be a big deal thanks to all the drawings. Thanks again.

I recently acquired a couple of fenders for my Jubilee and one had the clips shown in the photo. Wondering what they held, now I know. Tractor philosophy: since I already have the clips for free, I guess I need to get the rest of the mower!
