Is Dell WA still here? I think he was called the sparky meister.
Tractor starts and runs 2-3 min then dead stop! No Spark. Is this a crapy coil?

Paul.........I flunked mind reading, just ask my ex-wife of 32 years.

Gotta help me out, model of tractor, (9N, 2N, 8N) battery volts.

But as a general rule, a bad coil takes about 1-hr to go BAD. And surprizingly enuff, "cures" itself overnite. The 4-nipple front mount coil is very susceptible to this problem. The later round can coil is semi-bulletproof.

Based upon yer 2-3 min description, I'd guess a BAD condenser. Fortunately for you, when you buy a "tune-up" kit, NEW points and condensers are included.

Remember to "polish" the INVISIBLE corrosion from between the points (0.015) after installation. I clamp a clean $1.00 bill between the points and pull. Iff'n yer really cheap, tear a strip from HEAVY brown grocery sack and use that.

As a WAG (wild *SS guess), you have the weird 4-nipple front mount dizzy. The points are best set/adjusted on yer kitchen table. Just un-snapple yer capple and letter dangle. Remove the 2-bolt and run to the kitchen. Install/adjust the points (0.015") and polish the INVISIBLE corrosion.

Installation is a reversal of the removal...except...finger start the 2-bolts. Now install the rotor and rotate the rotor until the dizzy tang fits and falls into the camshaft slot. Now TIGHTEN the 2-bolts and re-snapple yer capple. Simple, eh? ........sparkie-meister Dell

Sorry Dell, I hadn't seen you post in a while and I've doing other things (building a boat).

It's a 1950 Ford 8N With side mount dist, 6 volt Ignition. I've cleaned the fuel tank, fuel valve and have fuel to the carb.

if it dies with no spark, and the points are not burning, check to see if the ign switch is bad by hotwiring coil from battery, if nothing, next place to check is to see if the insulator and feed thru conductor is intact, and the copper strip is not grounding on the case. lastly. check that condensor dell mentioned by swapping it with a spare one.
