does anyone have plans to build a rear platform to hook to an 8n 3pt hitch to haul wood etc. i have a welder i am thinking maybe angle iron frame with wood flooring . im not very good at drawing tings up but can folow a plan. havent seen any professionally made for sale.

Not sure why I can't see my post in Modern View so
I can't edit the link to make it work correctly.
But, hopefully this shows up right.

thanks for info next time im in nc hobo i will stop in. i really thought someone would sell plans to build one but 129 dollars is pretty good price.

I been using this one for years. It hold a lot of wood and it dumps.

Kirk........with all that WEIGHT behind yer rear tires, I'll bettcha yer front tires are like POWER STEERING, eh?........armstrong Dell

Yes Dell it does fell like PS. Even with front wheel weights on the 8n I don't overload it. On my 4000 light industrial I load it up a little more. It has front weights and a heavier front axle to keep the tires on the ground.

When that $130.00 one breaks its arms off as you pick up a load, just cut the horizontal arms off and put on new ones a foot longer and an inch wider. Extend them back beyond the uprights towards the tractor tires by about six inches then weld in a diagonal brace. It will then carry a load.

Man i live that one cut out weight for valve stem. Got to take two off and duplicate that cut on them. Did two of these come in an original weight set when ordered new? Oh yea...like the platform to haul wood on.

I had a brain wave the other day about my carryall.

To dump it, I'll just remove the top link and raise the lift arms, then drive forward while lowering the arms to connect the top link again.

That's my theory, think it will work?

Uh oh!
Excellent point!

I'll have to bolt the wooden box bottom to the front crossbar that goes from fork to fork!

Thanks
T :)

HO HO!
No kidding! I can just picture the box buckling.

Rube Goldberg sends his regards.

You would have to drop the fully loaded box on the
ground before you will be able to take out the top
link pin. Then raise it and as greywolf224 about
the wood extending might break your wooden box. If
it did work what about the next load you can't put
it on top because you can't get the pin out.
Here is how my box dumps. You already have the frame
just add a frame to the box, pin it at the end of
your bottom frame and add some sort of release.

The TSC carryall frame may be a little flimsy for hauling firewood, but it has worked well for me so far for the odd jobs I had. They knocked off about 10% for the scratches and small rust spot the frame had!

You might try "Googling" tractor carryall; there are LOTS of ideas on the Internet. I didn't find any real plans with details, but it would be tough to fab up something for less than the $100 or so for TSC frame. I added 2X10" treated (and left over) lumber to make a box about 64" wide, roughly 36" high, and just under 36" (to fit the frame supports) deep. Also added two 2X10's for sides (about 18" high) with loose pin hinges so they could be removed; parallel ridges from split 2X4 to hold 5/4 decking for removable tailgate. AND, I even drew a plan of sorts but did a little "field fitting" as it went along.

Kirk about how much would you say give or take, your entire setup weights....empty?

I just finished this one a couple of weeks ago built on the TSC frame. You just can't beat $130 for a ready to go carryall. My platform and back are hinged and held on with a pin made from 1/2" pipe and a couple of carriage bolts so I can remove it quickly to get back to the "forks". It stores much better that way too.

That much I knew; I ain't that stupid despite the impression I might give. :)

But I like your straight forward design & hinge setup.

I've saw this home made one on YouTube months ago and I like it more than some others. Quite the the well engineered trip lever. A very nice dumping box with a higher, less extended load length so less lift on the front end.

As far as "getting back to the forks" goes, You'd do well to cut off
the bottom corners of your angle iron. I tried my carryall as is and with it's blunt ends, and especially cause mine has a cross bar (for now) it was even pitiful as forks for sliding under a big old burn pile that I was trying to lift up the edge of.

Cut back the angle iron bottoms and add some forklift-like skids to the ends.
Maybe you could use the ends of a leaf spring.

Cheers,
T

wow lots of good ideas for platform, this forum is very helpful. really likes metal platform but think ill go with the hinged wooden design.thanks

I'm not sure on the weight but I would say about 200
hundred pounds maybe a bit more. I can lift one side
at a time to jockey it into position for 3pt pin
aliment.

Is that box something that you bought or made?
If made, it looks pretty good and designed pretty well. You just gave me some good ideas.

I am using something that began as a wooden skid and grew sides. But it does get roughed up hauling out of the woods and rubbing up against trees and the such. I am constantly bracing it up.

The Box was bought from tractor supply years ago.
They no longer carry it. It might still have the
maker decal on the back. If interested I will let
you know what it sez.

Yes if you don't mind let me know what the tag says.

BTW I am still interested in those rims.

The front rims are off and ready to go. Rear rim may
not be until spring.
