Oil leak around manifold

I have a 8N, as I was plowing it started to smoke. I shut it off and checked the engine. I found that I had a bad manifold gasket. It was dripping oil around the manifold. I replaced the gasket and started the tractor. It still smoked. Checking further
I found that the rear cylinder is pushing oil out into the manifold causing it to burn. Do I need to replace the rings?
Oil pressure is good when running. Spark plugs are clean.

If it was coolant the smoke is white. Oil is blue smoke. #1 cyl is the 1st cyl behind the radiator.What does the plugs look like? any oily? Are you having excessive blowby. I was hoping it was coolant and maybe just your head gasket is breached. What is the compression on all 4 cyls. I think you could pull oil in the cyl if its a stuck valve thats why you need all 4cyls checked for compression. If infact it is the rings it is fixable by dropping the pan and remove the head push the piston out. I know that there are people on this forum who can tell you much more of what is wrong. I am far from a expert on this an my answer is what I would think if it was my engine and I had nobody to ask. I have never seen this problem so a lot of?s on my part. Post the ? again and somebody will zero in on it.

Thanks WW2N.
I have checked the compression, the old way, I placed my thumb over the hole and it popped my thumb off, all cylinders. The oil is clear of any water. It is not milky. As for the cylinder, it's the rear one. When running it pumps it in the manifold. and it also can be seen running down the exhaust. I think it is the rings. But I am a plugger and it has me stumped.

Well let us know what you find. Theres a lot of reg forum members not posting right now, they must be on a long weekend due to Vets Day.

Whatever is the cause, I would start with a GOOD compression test! That will give you a better idea of your work scope.

Check piston, sleeve in number 4.

If it was mine, I would place engine on a stand and do a complete overhaul. By the time you get number 4 out, everything else is right there to work on. You could just repair number 4 and in six months do another one. Lot of work just to get the pan off.

(quoted from post at 08:20:59 11/12/14) RG, could he be getting oil from valves or valve
covers?

Highly unlikely, just splash oil around valve stems, not like an engine with overhead valves.

RG;
Thanks for your input, I will do a good compression test. An let you know what I come up with.
