im about to do brakes and seals on early 8n
im working in a small shed and cannot remove both wheels at same time, question is is it ok to remove one wheel and install seal and new shoes and then do other side?.from what i read one side has shims for adjuistment of axels, dont know if i understand this but should be all right if i put same amount of shims back in any and all info appreciated thanx in advance
this 8n is early 48 so should be single seal.

I did my '48 one wheel at a time.
I put the same number of shims back in on the first side
and then checked the preload on the other side.
Right or wrong, its still working and not leaking.

(quoted from post at 00:19:19 11/11/14) Silly me....I used a dial indicator!!
It's not like I have to land it on a short runway! ;)
Did you get that tractor out of your pickup bed yet?

It would be better to jack up the rear axle so both wheels are off the ground even if you only have room to work on one side at a time. That way when you put it back together you can rotate the wheel you worked on to insure the other wheel rotates in the opposite direction. When the wheels rotate opposite when turned is when they are adjusted properly.
