I bought this and have installed on my 8n turns over but will not start what is the voltage I should have at the coil the wiring is as your instuctions show (resistor assembly A8NN12250A) SHOULD STILL BE IN THE CIRCUIT RIGHT and I have about 6volts at the coil what do I do

(quoted from post at 17:18:10 11/09/14) I don't have a parts catalog handy. What part is that?

Front or side distributor?
ruce, that is the ceramic resistor often offered for use in converting to 12v electrics while keeping the 6v coil. The ceramic resistor which may have virtually any value while keeping the same 10300 part number!!!??

Questioner: meausred with points open or closed? and is your system 6v or 12v?

ALTEDPARA........ah yes, the cheap and eazy Bubba 12-volt conversion.

Gonna make a WAG (wild *ss guess) that yer 8N has the weird 4-nipple front mount dizzy with square can ignition coil. And yer measuring yer volts the the top terminal of the square can coil. The squarecan coil ALWAYS takes the MANDATORY "infamous" ballast resistor (p/n: A8NN12250A) NO ARGUE!!!

The original 6-volt squarecan coil WITH the ballast resistor should read about 3-volts, engine NOT running and points (0.015") CLOSED. (ie...about 1/2 battery volts) Since you specify you read about 6-volts at the coil terminal, that tells me yer Bubba conversion is semi-correct ...BUT... 6-volts onna 3-volt coil is gonna MELT the internal TAR insulation and KILL yer squarecan coil.

Since yer reading 6-volts, and yer engine will NOT run, that tells me yer points (0.015") are probably SHORTED out. Would it surprize you to learn SHORTED points NEVER make sparkies??? Sparkies only occur when the points OPEN. When points are OPEN, you will read BATTERY volts ...ie... 12-volts in yer case.

You do know yer weird 4-nipple dizzy is designed to be REMOVED from the engine and the points (0.015") installed/cleaned/adjusted on the kitchen table, don't you???

Just un-snapple yer capple and letter dangle. Remove the 2-bolts and run to the kitchen and do yer points. (0.015") Remember to POLISH the INVISIBLE corrosion from between the points (0.015") after installation. I use a clean piece of paper match book cover ...or... HEAVY strip of BROWN paper grocery sack.

Installation is a reversal of the removal ...except... finger start the 2-bolts, install the rotor and rotate the rotor until the OFF-SET tang fits OFF-SET camshaft slot. Now tighten yer 2-bolts and re-snapple yer capple. Simple, eh?

BTW, they now make a 12-volt virgin of the squarecan coil. It still requires the same "infamous" ballast resistor. (p/n: 12250) but NOT the 12-to-6 volt converting resistor (p/n: 10300). You can gitta white ceramic 12-to-6 volt converting resistor at NAPA for Chrysler/Plymouth cars. .......HTH, Dell who gotta go watch the SeaHawks win?
