I have a 8n that runs good the tires hold air has good oil pressure. I would like to sell two 8n parts tractors with this, What should I ask for all three tractors. This is in north east Ohio

I'm not from that area and won't be..but I will tell you first so the info can start coming in a little quicker...More Info Is Needed..On the running one, do the hydraulics work? Shape of sheet metal? Any major leaks? 6 Volt or 12 volt? Front distributor or side? Brakes work? etc (8N-4 speed forward)What major parts are on the parts tractors or what is missing? Are they totally disassembled? etc. With some of this additional info, responses should be more accurate.HTH

I live near Columbus. I see lots of people that want 2500 for an 8n with fresh paint, no problems and new tires. Do they get that? meh, maybe. I wouldnt pay more than 1500 for any N that said it was in top mechanical shape, as I have chased the rabbit down the hole with the one I have....

Parts tractors are tough to get rid of IMO. You have to find someone that wants to wrench on one to fix it, or tear it down. Most people on this site would probably buy one, but your average person looking for an el cheapo tractor will not want the expense/effort costs of trailering expensive yard art, IMO

I think you would have better luck splitting them up.selling the good one by it's self.

If everything is working and they don't smoke. They are worth $2800 here in nebraska

Yea, they do. I'm east of Columbus and work in town. Was following one at an on-line auction recently (place was located in Hilliard if I remember correct) that had good paint, OK tires, said it had to be pulled to start but ran well (?). It went for $2,500, maybe a bit more (can't check from work, auction sites are blocked). The ones I see that have good paint, decent tires and will start are going for around $2K at the local three times a year consignment auction, sometimes more for a really nice one. The rough ones less, really rough around $8-900, parts tractors $300 to $500. About 5 yrs. ago I gave $1,900 for an early '48 8N with a noisy clutch and hard steering, OK but weather checked and mismatched rears and awesome good brakes.

An 8N is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I live in southern California where they're not cheap.

I paid $4k for mine with a Davis front loader on it. It also came with a Woods M5-4 brush mower and a Gannon 6 foot rollover box blade.

There was one big selling point. I bought it and drove it home in about five minutes.

I've been working that tractor for ten years now and I don't regret one dollar of that $4k.

There was another guy that stopped and was just walking up to look at it when I told the seller "I'll take it". They don't last long when you find one for sale in this area.

What drives the price up in your area... If a N will fetch those prices what does a good tractor fetch....

If not for irrigation this is primarily desert country. There is not and old "N" found in everybody's barn like there is in the midwest farming country.

(quoted from post at 04:13:27 11/04/14) I follow the ads all over the country and see good tractors fairly often out in your part of the country. No reason to drive an N when you could pick up something like the one below.
Govt Liquidation

I don't see any price on it. I do see that it needs tires all around. When I bought my 8N, I knew absolutely nothing about tractors. I only knew I was getting very tired of repairing my dirt roads with a shovel.

As I said the main selling point was that I could get on the tractor and drive it to my property in about five minutes. A neighbor owned this tractor and I'd seen him working with it and how nice he kept his property with it. The only reason he sold it was that he was moving to Arizona.

You may think I got "took" and that's your privilege, but as I said, I do not regret spending one dollar of that $4k.

(quoted from post at 19:08:15 11/04/14) It's an auction. Opening bid is $25.
I don't mind what tractor you drive.
If you are happy with it that's all that counts.

I know it's an auction but you seem to insinuate that it's going to go real cheap.

In the first place it doesn't even say if the thing runs and all I see is a picture on the internet. It's a govt. auction which tells me that a piece of govt equipment was probably run pretty hard with no one really caring about it. I think I'll pass on that one.

Again, I don't care what tractor you drive.
But this thing would eat an N's lunch.
It would also eat the lunch of any Jube, Hundred and many of the Thousands.
It's about 52 HP. Diesel, Independent pto, of course live hyds. Cat I/II three point. They had Really good brakes. Only 1K hours on it.
I'd love to own it but it's too far for me to go even if it went cheap.
Rear tires are probably at least 8 ply, maybe 10 ply so would last a long time.
I'll keep an eye on it and let you know what it goes for.

Around here you can get a decent 8N for $1500 and $4000 will buy a lot of tractor. My neighbor has another 8N/NAA/Hundred series eater for sale - his venerable Farmall 656 - asking $4500. It runs strong and he has been using it every day for the last 20+ years for everything from snow removal to tillage to going to town for lunch ;-) If it wasn't a NF I would have been down to negotiate that asking price with him.....

Thanks, I'm curious as to what it goes for. The main thing is the work that it would take to get it back to good working order. I don't have a garage to work in or even a concrete slab to work on so that makes it a little more difficult. I used to work on my own cars when you could open a hood and know what you were looking at. I certainly am not a diesel mechanic.

Second would be getting the thing home. I'd have to rent a flat bed or pay someone to ship the thing, and as I said, it's a crap shoot. You don't know it's condition until you start digging into it.

When I bought my 8N, I needed a good running tractor that I could use right now, not something that was going to be a project to get running.

I really do get your point but it's just a lot of work, money and uncertainty for me. Kind of like buying the ol' pig in a poke.

I'm always messing around with my tractors.
My main tractor is a 3000 that I've had for about 10 years.
I've had 2 different tranny/rear ends in it. 3 different engines, 4 different front end/steering combinations, a bunch of different wheels and tires. I recently got a better nose for it that I will put on next spring.
When I get that on the only part that remains of the original tractor that I bought 10 years ago is the left side hood.
TOH,
I would love to have a RC tractor.
Of course I have no use for it. And it wouldn't fit in my garage but that's all beside the point.
I've always wanted a 4200.

Beautiful tractor. If I had the knowledge that some of you guys have I wouldn't be afraid to buy something that was a project.

With my property here and the dirt roads I need a working tractor all the time. In the summer there is the weed problem and in the winter there is the road maintenance.

Heck I'm kinda watching for something like a 9700 although I could put a 2000 and 4000 to work too!
