OT: plant ID - agian

been getting some mushrooms popping up in the fall - no idea what they are. once up they dont last long before tuning into black mush. find them growing in the lawn; even had some come up thru a lightly traveled gravel drive.

sure wouldnt eat any until a positiv id was made. even if not edible i've never seen this typ before.

any guesses? thanks.

Shaggy Mane mushrooms. An edible Fall mushroom, but having eaten them, their taste is mediocre at best. I would not bother with them.

What is in the vicinity mean? 1/2 mile close enough? I got lot of good eating mushrooms but no horses!

I sure would not advise anyone eating any mushroom solely based upon a couple of pictures on the internet.

Several years ago we found some boletes and sent pictures to a mushroom expert and he advised that if we ate any of them, keep one in the fridge, so that when we got sick we could take it to the hospital with us! We did not eat them!

I looked in my book and they could be either the shaggy mane or inky cap.

some mushrooms best just kicked!
