I changed bearing and outer axel oil seals about a year ago. I now see both hubs leaking oil.i am going to replace brakes and probley both inter and outer oil seals.late 8n 52 had two seals on both axels. I did not change the inter seal last time because I was told I didn't have to .because the outer seal should be enough.
what problems should I look for on the oil seals.

Just follow John Smith's instructions & you will be fine.

you don't suppose that ford added that inner seal beacuse it might keep the ouuters from leaking do ya?

You are misinformed.

The rear axle bearings in late model 8N tractors are lubed with wheel bearing grease and must be properly packed.

The inner seal is intended to keep the transdraulic oil inside the axle trumpet and away from the axle bearing where it will wash away the bearing grease.

The purpose of the outer seal is to keep the bearing grease inside the bearing cavity and away from the brakes. It is not intended to keep transdraulic oil inside. If transdraulic oil reaches the outer seal, it will wash away the bearing grease and leak onto the brakes.

You will need to replace both seals and pack the axle bearings.
