Couple of ORC questions

Hi all. I'm planning on buying a 1 1/8 female to 1 3/8 male ORC from this site for my 1949 8n as mine fell off last week while mowing. Does anyone who has purchased one from here know if it comes with a roll pin? Alternatively can I use any 5/16 x 2 inch roll pin or is it some special grade?

I also have a slight leak from the bottom PTO gasket holes. What do I need to fix this, a gasket and a seal? thanks much!

i think I'd just get a real 1 3/8 pto assy with new seal and gasket!

as tot he roll pin question, it's spring steel. it is not carrying a side load... the splines do that. it's is for location and is seeing very limited shear force applied as long as your pto shaft is correct length and telescopes smoothly.

otherwise. i'd repalce gasket and seal and bearing if needed. if i was doing all 3 i'd do the assy...

like soundguy says ,since your faced with doing it anyway just get the updated assembly, its easy to change provided your tractor hasn't been grossly abused, basically just put the tractor nose down in a good ditch, so the gear oil doesnt run out when you pull the pto shaft out ,unbolt the 4 retaining bolts and pull it out, but as to the orc, they come complete with everything from here ive bought several

I haven't bought one from this site, but the ones I have bought came with a pin.
I like the larger shaft too, but if you are using a rotary mower you'll still want an ORC.

and hope your front tranny input shaft seal is good, otherwise u will be splitting it because of a soaked clutch..BTDT

I recently broke down and replaced my PTO shaft with a 1-3/8" one, and am very glad I did it. I picked up a QD ORC for it, so I don't have to screw around with roll pins and grease fittings and can pop it off or on in a few seconds.

But to answer you question, my former ROC is one of the gold made-in-India ones. It came with a rollpin, but it was the strongest rollpin I have ever seen, and absolutely refused to be hammered into place. Bought another from the hardware store, They had them shorter and longer but not the same size as the one that came with the ROC so being in a hurry I grabbed the shorter one and it seems to work fine, b though it is probably only making contact on one end at a time so I intended to get a longer one and grind it down to the correct length but never got around to it. If I was ordering a zerk-style ORC I think I'd order an extra rollpin or two at the same time..

I was thinking the same thing, get a couple extra pins but this site doesn't list them. Other tractor places like "Just 8 ns" does but who wants to pay shipping on a $.33 cent part. So I'll get those at the Big Box place.

I don't want to replace the PTO shaft since I want the ORC for hogging anyway.

So to clarify, What is needed to stop the Leak, a gasket and seal ???? Am I right in that the roll pin is 5/16 x 2 inches? any other part before I order?

I measured my gold India ORC and it looks like the ideal length if the pin is to engage on both sides would be a tad over 2" say 2-1/8" x 5/16" or maybe a tiny bit longer. So the slightly short hardware store one I was using must be a 2". Even though I used a 2" without any problem it probably would be a good idea to get one from a tractor supply made the right length or buy the next longer hardware store one and grind it to the perfect size.

You might ask the shop when you order if they have any extras kicking around that aren't in the catalog, I find with small stuff like this they often do.
