hooked up the broken end of the cable to a drill and pluged in good end into proofmeter and it turns.does this mean it works.if ok I need to get a new cable yts sales two kind how good is the cheap one.

Pretty much everybody uses the cheaper one. I have bought them, no problems. The more expensive one is for restoration as it looks a little more like the original steel jacked one. I would say that if the needle of your proof meter is registering RPMs it is working.

hey show crop you said you bought both cheap and expeanse cable. do they both have the same inter cable.can I run it thru my origanl steel case.
what about a car speedometer cable.

Why not just put an electronic tack on it and be done with it. A tack is really not needed on these machines. I got two 8ns with tacks that work and never look at them.

Yes, they are the same, I have swapped them.

You could have the same problem I had on my 8N. I got a new proofmeter and cable because the other one wasn't turning. It turns out that there is a small bushing that slips into the cable hole at the governor end, that was missing on mine. I ordered it and installed and everything worked then. It seems the little bushing is what catches the end of the cable, going into the governor, and that is what allows the cable to then turn. One of the helpful fellows on here pointed that out for me so I could then fix it correctly and all is well. If you do a search for my username plus proofmeter, you should see what happened and even a drawing of how the bushing works.
