8n to jubillee engine swap?

16 guage man

New User
:) hello I have long wondered about whether an 8n or 9 or 2 n motor could be transplanted to my jubilee? it's a 54 naa that belonged to my old man I will have it forever and love it it's all original but it smokes some and I like and have an old flat head motor that is strong and good from an n and just wondered if it would work? also my old n is so high geared it makes me like my jubilee more for mowing and blading if anyone ever tried reverse with a blade on an 8n they know...IT'S FAST and not good...lol and THANKS

Welcome to the forum!
The N engine won't fit without some serious fabrication.
You would be better off keeping the 134 Red Tiger engine
or finding another running one and swapping it out.
They have quite a few updated features, some as minor as
the temperature gauge, but they also have more horsepower.

Something as simple as a new head gasket, hand lap on valves, new rings, hone and team ridge on liners, then slap in a new set of whatever wheels ot has, something lil that cost under a couple bills, could be done in a long day, and might add 10-15 us of use to that naa.

I would want to keep the original engine with the
tractor. Trading one used engine for another is
just trading one problem for another problem.

hello and THANKS I have read this forum a good while and bought parts from ytc and decided to join tonight, I am enjoying this tractor talk , and I will keep the ole red belly your right it's stronger it's so old and used it's gotta be the best motor they ever made, my old man bought it brand new and never EVER let anyone even sit on the seat me included, and when he got sick he told me to give him a ride on it one last time YOU DRIVE he said, I knew he wasn't long for this world = about a month later he's gone so I do love the old machine... and you guy's can help me keep her ALIVE! her names ole betsy. P.S. when he bought ole betsy I wasn't born till 2 yrs later he paid on it with the tobacco money for several yrs,we were poor and betsy was a luxury...

Great historical anecdote and great that you have his tractor.

A small point, but if your Dad's tractor is a 1954, then it is definitely an NAA but it is not a Jubilee NAA.
Only '53 for Jubilee. :)

P.S.
Since you might be new at rebuilding, when SoundNguy wrote, "hone and team ridge" he meant "ream" the ridge. You don't want to be making the classic faux pas of trying to hone the cylinder wall ridge away.

If money is an issue you can get the parts as you can afford to and if you have the skills do it yourself except form machine shop stuff. If you don't have the skills there may be a member close enough to help you out.

With time and money probably any conversion can be
done but in the case of going back to an 8n
flathead it doesn't make much sense. Not only will
you have issues adapting to the trans and
hydraulic issues since the pump from your NAA is
on the engine you will have to run a front pump
off the crankshaft pulley or something similar.
Tin,gas tank, radiator hoses, radius rods might
also be a problem. All this work for a downgrade
in HP don't make much sense. As other have said
best to rebuild or switch it out for a similar
engine. 134 engines were used up to the early
thousand series and later with industrial
applications so there are plenty around. You could
even transplant with a 172 engine should you
choice to do so.

The pistons, rings may be available at your local
Auto parts store along with bearing shells. These
motors are similar enough to engines used in cars
and trucks that Ford used the same parts in many
applications. lha
