N/2N/8N first & second gear ratios are the same.(quoted from post at 18:00:52 10/29/14)
I am more worried about the lowest forward gear. I am under the impression that an 8n is lower than a 9n in 1st low. Is that not correct?
The 3 speed first gear is 1.79 mph at 1000rpm and the four speed is 1.85 mph at 1000 rpm so you actually have a slower gear in the three speed.(quoted from post at 14:44:00 10/29/14) I have a 9n that runs great, but I dont care for the high grearing or the heal pedals.
I may be able to get an 8n that the motor is bad in and was wondering if I could swap the 9n motor onto the 8n tractor to get the lower gearing and 8n pedal setup?
ark. Better revisit those numbers.(quoted from post at 18:53:16 10/29/14)The 3 speed first gear is 1.79;1 and the four speed is 1.85;1 so you actually have a slower gear in the three speed.(quoted from post at 14:44:00 10/29/14) I have a 9n that runs great, but I dont care for the high grearing or the heal pedals.

I was planning to measure those numbers on my 9N and 8N this year.(quoted from post at 18:49:51 10/29/14)N/2N/8N first & second gear ratios are the same.(quoted from post at 18:00:52 10/29/14)

I have yet to find a reliable tach setup to run the test to my satisfaction.
However, driving the two my "feeling" is that the 8N ground speed is faster.
JMOR has told me before that the gear ratios are the same and I
do not doubt him. Maybe the Sherman in my 9N affects the feel.
The engine will swap and if it is a front mount 8N and you have
both complete tractors you should have all the parts to do it.
I wouldn't expect it to be any slower though.
