Painting HVLP

I AM USEING A HIGH VOLUMN LOW PRESSURE PAINT GUN.I AM USEING A INDUSTIAL PAINT.ONE THAT THEY SPRAY ON FUEL OR FARM LARGE TANKS.
PROBLEM IS WHEN I SPRAY I GET SMALL DROPLETS COMING OUT NO MATTER HOW I ADJUST THE PRESSURE OR VOLUMN.IT IS THE SAME.I WAS WONDERING SHOULD IT BE A MIST IN STEAD OF DROPS.
AFTER IT SETS A WHILE THE PAINT SETTLES OUT AND IT LOOKS GOOD TO ME.MAYBE IT IS THE PAINT.
THE GUN BELONGS TO MY SON WHO IS A PAINTER AND HE SAYS HE CAN'T TELL UNLESS HE SEES THE GUN OR PAINT.THE GUN HAS A TIP THAT IS SUPPOSE TO SPRAY ANY PAINT WITHOUT THINING.
NOW I HAVE TO WAIT ON HIM.

ANY IDEAS OUT THERE.

It may be your nozzle adjustment on the front of the gun,on mine if I have it screwed on to far it doesn't atomize correctly. It should be about flush with the nozzle face.

I TURN THE FRONT NOZZEL FINGER TIGHT ANY LOSER THE NOZZEL WILL TURN BY ITSELF.FINGER TIGHT IT STAYS IN PLACE.

IT IS A KOBALT COMPRESS AIR HVLP PAINT SPRAYER.IT HAS A ADJUSTER KNOB FOR SUCKING THE PAINT OR PUSHING THE PAINT.EVERY THING SEAMS TO BE WORKING ALL RIGHT.IT WORKS BEST ON PRESSURE IN THE CUP.IF I SET THE AIR AT 40 LBS IT WORKS BEST.WHEN I OPEN THE PRODUCT KNOB THE PAINT COMES OUT IN LITTLE DROPS THE MORE PRODUCT THE BIGGER THE DROPS.I THOUGHT IT SHOUD COME OUT IN A MIST.
IF I GET A CHANCE I WILL TALK TO THE FRIEND WHO PAINTS BIG TANKS ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING.I GOT THE PAINT FROM HIM.
LIKE I SAID BEFORE THE PAINT LEVELS GREAT AND LOOKS GOOD IT IS THE WAY IT COMES OUT OF THE GUN THAT WORRYS ME.
MAYBE I AM JUST AN OLD WORRY WORT.

You just will. Cap locks in a message seems to usually point toward anger and frustration. Not calm and collected...

What is the psi you are set at on your regulator, what size tip does the gun have. My cheap guns from harbor freight come with either a 1.2 , 1.4 , and a 2. Thick paint through a large nozzle size will produce a droplet spray. Often not a smooth finish, but what I have always called orange peel.. My suspicion would be the paint is too thick and you are running too low of pressure, or too large of a nozzle with thick paint. Check your nozzle size, check your psi.

A side note, I thin almost all paints for spraying. The exception would be a nason frame paint that comes pre thinned.

If you don't want to thin the paint, play with the pressure and see if you can get it to spray better.

thank you jeff about the caps lock.i heard about the anger before.i just played some more with my sons gun and I think I got it worked out.
yes it is a thick paint but the gun is suppose to spray .the psi is 40lbs the gun says nothing over 50 psi.i love the paint because it covers well, but it levels over a short time and realy sticks.i only got 3 runs because I open the product to much.i can live with that.
again thank you.
ps yes it is a large tip.
