STARTED LAPPING THE VALVES ON MY 8N ENGINE.AM HAVING PROBLEM KEEPING THE SUCTION CUP STUCK ON THE VALVE.THE INTAKE VALVE ARE SOLID TOP BUT ARE ALUMINUM.SO A MAGANET WILL NOT WORK.THE EXHAUST VALVE IS STEEL OR IRON AND HAS THE WORD FORD STAMPED ON THEM PLUS A 1/4 INCH OUTER RING.NOT MUCH SERFACE TO STICK TO.I HAVE CLEANED BOTH SERFACES EACH TIME,BUT NOT MUCH LUCK STICKING TO VALVES,NEW STICK WITH CUPS.
ANY IDEAS ON WHAT TO DO

Have the valves been ground on a valve grinder and the seats with a seat grinder? If not, do so. Then check them with Prussian blue.

You were previously given good advice, as to what to do and you did not acknowledge it or reply.

I THANK YOU AND EVERYONE WHO MADE COMENTS TO MY QUESTIONS.I DID REPLY TO SOME BUT NOT ALL AND ONLY ONE ANSWERED MY QUESTION ABOUT THE GUILDS AND LUBE ON THE VALVE STEM.
I DID AS TOLD AND IT WORKED THE FIRST TIME AROUND LAPPING THE VALVES.
THE ONLY REASON I WAS LAPPING THE VALVES WAS BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS SMOKING AND I WANTED TO FIND OUT WERE IT WAS COMING FROM AND IT WAS THE RINGS AND PISTIONS IN MY INDUSTRIAL 8N ENGINE.
THE VALVES WERE GOOD AND DID NOT NEED TO BE GRIND..
THEY WERE SEATING GOOD AND CAUSED NO PROBLEM.
AGAIN I SAY THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR HELP.

Don't belive I have ever seen alum. valves. Hand lapped my industrial engine valves and did have some trouble with the suction cups but with enough spit and not pushing down very hard, got the job done. my sticks have a different size cup on each end.

Almost surely not aluminum. The heads and possibly the stems as well are probably an austenitic steel - possibly stainless. Austenitic steels are not ferromagnetic and are often used to make the heads on exhaust valves (and sometimes intake valves) because they have better high temperature strength and corrosion resistance. Stellite is another popular cobalt alloy used to coat valves (usually stainless) and it is completely non-magnetic.

TOH

I found one at a Dollar Store on a toy dart. You may need to buy a new lapping tool. The hand tool is cheap.

YOU ARE RIGHT AGAIN.I SHOULD HAVE KNOW AFTER WORKING IN A STEEL MILL GARY INDIANA FOR 20 YEARS.
YES I SPIT ON SUCTION AND CLEANED WITH CLEANER,BUT STILL NO LUCK.I DID GET A GOOD SEAT WITH WHAT I DID.
