Re: "Resistor Assembly w/ Small Screw for Tractor
Model: 8N Fits 8N before serial #263844."
Evidently, I have one of those 8N's "before serial
#263844". Replace the resistor assembly today,
but had to use the original screws (48843-S). The
screws that came with the new assembly were 0.225
in diameter (slotted flat head 5/16 length)
whereas the screws that were in my 8N were about
0.215 in. and were had a split that looked like
they were self tapping. Looking it up, a standard
#12-24 screw has a nominal major diameter of 0.216
and a 1/4 inch (next common size larger), has a
diameter of 0.250 in. Therefore, what the heck
size are those new screws supposed to be anyway?
They do not seem to be a standard size. I know that some Resistor Assemblies come with samll, some with large screws, but I am dumbfounded that they appear not to be of a standard size. Any Info?

In short, they went from a standard size on the early 8Ns, to a non-standard size on the later models. Why?
