have this 9n that has a coolant leak on the top
cover coming from one of the studs.(i have the
studs and nut cover) i took it off, cleaned it
all up, put a new head gasket on and tourqued
it all down to 55lbs as the manual says.
started it up and it leaks worse now then
before.... should i have tourqued to the 65-
70lbs as it says to do with bolts?? judging by
how plegged up the radiator was, it may have
been overheated. but i have never had a head
leaak coolant after putting a new head gasket
on, but this is my first ford 9n......any
suggestions????

Did you apply sealer to the stud threads before inserting it into the block?

Most (All?) head stud/bolt holes go into the water jacket. Without sealer they WILL leak.

try that again wi9th good studs, not waisted ones, and some sealer. ( as was said by another poster )

Welcome to the forum!
When you took it off, did all the nuts turn off the studs,
or did some (or all) of the studs turn out of the block?
If they turned out, they need to go back in with sealer as said.
I would get the nuts off of them and clean them all up first.
Replacement is another option.

ACTUALLY TWO OF THEM DID TURN OUT.ALL THE REST
STAYED. can i use the white teflon sealer that
napa has?? or something else.

If those are the two that are leaking, I would take those two
back out, take the nuts off, clean them up and put them back
in with a good sealer. Not Teflon tape, then torque to spec.
Everyone has they're preferred sealer. Red RTV will work if
you don't use too much.
Re-torque all of them, not just those two.

If it doesn't seal, or its leaking other than just at those two,
you'll get to do it over, but its probably worth a shot before
tearing it all apart again if it is just those two.
