New crank pulley..

Finishing engine rebuild, had to get "new" crank pulley as original was bent and where seal rides was pitted and worn.
Of course new machined pulley is 2-3 thousands too small on the inside diameter, so I will be honing that out to fit. I am using the one piece seal for pulley.
The question I have is I see a lot of people using hex bolts to attach the pulley to the crank instead of the original one that can take the crank handle. I want to be able to turn over my engine if I need to. Is there a reason I cant use the original one?
Thanks
Corey

If you are planning to drive a "stinger" hydraulic pump, you need to use an appropriate replacement bolt.

If NOT, there's no reason the OEM ratchet-head bolt can't be re-used.

If you are using the pulley with the 4 threaded holes and a OEM crank bolt I use a drill bit and tapper the crank bolt hole... If you test fit you will find the original bolt has a tapper just under the flat of the hex that will keep the flat of the hex from bottoming out to the pulley... The original bolt will snap off EZ if you do not counter bore the replacement pulley

Thanks Hobo. I'm glad you told me, I didn't even notice it before.
I need to find a drill bit big enough to make the taper.
Spent last night honing the inside and test fitting.
