Won't lift but does not leak down. I take it that it won't lift weight but if unloaded it does not leak down? What does it do if you stand on the arms once they are up? Could be a relief valve problem. Simple and cheap to replace. You can take the cover off on the right side where the hyd dip stick is and have a look inside with a flashlight. If you have any leaks on the top side you will be able to see it dripping down. Others will know more.

pull inspection port and see where the leak is. migth be a blown out top gasket at the right front corner.. or a holed pressure stand pipe.. or a blown out gasket under the cyl, blown out piston or ings.. bad relief.. etc.

All of those would leak down. Sounds like a no or very low pump pressure problem to me....

i have on rare occasion seal a pistol with oring that would pump up under no load, and stay there under no load, but leak down or outright drop if you stood on it, right thru the oring. which is why i at least mentioned it.

and yes. I do believe it is before that.. perhaps even at the relief., but it's worth mentioning. we all see weird stuff happen in these old things.

Heck, my 8n before i rebuilt it's lift, could lift a coupl ehundred pounds 'ok' ( would leak down ) but if you lifted a bucket of dirt, it would leak externally in a spurt the size of a lil stirr stick, and if clutch was in would be on the ground in seconds. was a bad gooped up rtv's paper gasket courtesy of the prev owner.

I pulled insp. cover. no visible signs of leakage. the only movement of oil was at front of pump. looked like from movement of yoke. also checked control leaver, went all the way to housing. if rings were by passing, would there be signs of leakage? thanks,, donald

If control valve is in lift position. Pump pumping, and no leak out the cyl mouth, the look back at pump it wont be at the cyl, unless it blowing out the front under the gasket and running down sump wall unseen
