As far as I know, the generator and starter were red like the rest.
I paint them black because I like them that way.
Personal preference? Artistic license?

The rear outer rims were cadmium plated. Silver color.
I paint them with Rustoleum hammered silver. Close.
The rear wheel centers were the same color as the tin.
Kind of like this "work in progress" of mine.

If you are looking to restore to original, seems like what I have seen is that the entire engine is Red. Guess it was easier for the frugal Mr. Ford to build em and paint em in one shot.

As Royce said, I also prefer starters and generators and oil filter housing and radiator to be black.
As for Carbs, governors, cylinder head, water pump, fuel line nuts, bolts I like to keep the metal look so I just coat them with a clear satin.

The starter and generator were red from the factory. The reason that you see so many that are black is that the auto electric repair shops that they all get taken to don't try to match or stock paint for everybody's tractor. I don't know why they have to paint them but they all do. When the starter or generator gets picked up they get put on as they come back, unless it is part of a resto job. When I bought a new pair of Unverferth wheels a few years back they came silver. I have a Ford sales brochure that features XX1 tractors and color photographs. The wheels are clearly silver.

THANKS TO ALL think i will go with black generator and starter i like black trim on the engine it will go good with black radiator hoses belt and wires also like the look of your silver hat rims will try to get one of my grandkids to help me post pictures of my 52 8n when i,m done Thanks Again Bill in utah
