Hello:

My 1948 8n 12 volt has an ignition switch with these posts i.e. 1 says IGN, 1 says Batt, 1 says ACC. On the tip end (center) of the Switch is another post,.????
All help is appreciated. Will someone please put up a pic showing what wires go to where? no genius here just can follow orders.
Thanks

8nsyes,The correct ignition switch just has two wires. You must have someones key start switch dream.Get the correct switch and wire it correctly, with a neutral safetyy switch.and maybe save a life.

Thanks Den, you are correct the switch is a key start. How do I wire the normal switch you described. Remember I have a 12V system.I highly appreciate your advise

This is roughly how mine is wired. When I added the key switch I made a quick diagram of how it was and just added the key between the power and the light switch that was being used as a run switch..

Google "wiring diagrams by JMOR".
He has done some very nice work creating pictograms that
cover all of the wiring for your tractor [b:f39fa6dda2]with[/b:f39fa6dda2] the NS switch.
If you wire it that way, we all know what you have and can
help with any issues you might run into.
There are just too many ways to "roll your own" for me to guess.

Thanks Royce, I like that "roll your own" brings back memories of days of many years ago. Appreciate the Web Site, shall check it out!

A key start switch as you describe is a dream and a very good dream compared to the nightmares a chitty 2 post N type switch has... Just don't use the start side of the switch use it as a on/off switch. The push button starter switch has nuttin to do with the ignition switch its a nutter separate deal.......The original 2 post switch is the weak link in the chain any improvement it 100 times better...

1 says IGN, Goes to the ignition switched on side

1 says Batt, Goes to the battery side of the switch were you pick up the power...

1 says ACC,,,,, The dream part of the switch you can feed the excite power feed to the alt no funky diode needed...

:D Thank you very much for that information, it is an eye opener. I learn something new everyday!
Thanks

Looking at your diagram, and assuming this is intended to be rear view of alternator, the wires on the edge plug are reversed. #2 on right is voltage sense and should go to output stud. #1 on left is excite (start up) and should go to accesssory terminal of your switch.

You are referring to the diagram I made of how mine was wired when I got the tractor, correct? If so, I need to switch those alt wires?
