Started cleaning up the "ugly 8N" I posted about.
This tag is on the battery box. What did it say?
Of all of them I've worked on, I don't recall seeing it.
It also still has the long pin and the keeper chains.
(and a bent running board)

My '49 has that plate also. It is a list of patent numbers used on the tractor. Google "ford 8n patent plate" to see a picture.
 
Thanks George. I've seen the patent plates on the 9N/2N's, but
apparently this it the first original 8N battery box I remember.
 
Royse, remember when you sent me a patient plate
for my 43 2N and you had to drive the rivets out
of the steering column with a 3/32 pin punch?
Well these are much easier to get to and I think
they have some diff #s then the 9 and 2. You can
buy aftermkt plates for both but I wanted an oem
for mine.
 
Yep, I remember. Seen lots of those on 9N/2N.
Maybe I've never seen a surviving original 8N battery tray?
 
What were those long pins actually designed for? An implement,chains or brackets of some kind? I kinda wish I had one just to have one to connect whatever generic device I should happen to hang on the back. Does this site sell them?
 
The long pins are not available new. You will have to find a used one. There are two different pins. The hinged one is for a Ferguson and the straight one is for an 8N. I use mine on the 8N for the stay chain adjusting bracket.

Which board....I have either you can have....and the data plate had patent numbers....I will take a pic and send it on when I get home!
 
Its the left one, I think it shows in the picture.
It is actually usable as is, just bent on the rear.
I can always use extras though! :)
 
There was a guy in town that had an 8n with a
horse shoe type swing drawbar. The support arms
connected to the long pin.
