Exhaust Hanger Bolt - Leaking Hydraulic Fluid

After replacing my exhaust the bolt which attached the hanger to the rear housing is slowly leaking hydraulic fluid when sitting (a few drips a day). What is the proper procedure to 'seal" this bolt? Perhaps teflon tape or pipe dope? I torqued it down pretty good (hand tight with a spud wrench) but I obviously want to do it the right way...

Thanks in advance...

A little thread sealant (aka pipe dope) should fix you right up. Just make sure it works with petroleum oils....

You shouldn't have a bolt there. It should be a stud w/ a nut on it. The stud is a 7/16-14 & 7/16-20. The coarse threads go in the block & the fine threads take a nut.

If some PO put a bolt in there, you could have stripped threads.

And using a spud wrench instead of a socket is going to get you a rounded off bolt/nut.

Check an older MPC Bruce - I think Ford started 9N production with bolts and switched to studs later. My 41 9N has studs but I have had customers tell me thier 9N has bolts.

Board is being weird... not showing my post... let's try again.

Yeah, definitely not a stud. Was not leaking previously and threads seemed to be in good shape.

Here is the ratchet I was using:

So I guess not a true spud wrench.

Did the 9N/2N have a bolt instead of a stud? Remember, I have a bit of a mystery frankentractor.

Interesting.

The picture on page 58 of my MPC clearly shows studs on the 8N's, and all of my 8N's have studs.

But the picture on page 57 of the MPC doesn't show bolts or studs for the 2 & 9N's.

But..........the description for part # 357724-S is shown as being applicable for the all N models as well as the NAA.

Oh well........

I have an early 9N parts manual downloaded from you know where and is says bolts ;-) The only reason I ever paid any attention to it is because of my 9N/2N under axle drawbar adapter . I ASSUMED all 9N/2N's were like mine (studs) until a customer informed me otherwise....
