dirt scoop: no sale

looked at it last night. owner wasn't there but his kid - who knew nothing - was there to show it. trip was rusted solid couldn't get it to budge. ok i could fix that but the other issue wasn't able to be fixed. the mounting pins were too short to be able to use a stabilizer bar. not able to swap them out either. even if i cut the original pin off and drilled new pin holes there would be no room for the nut to hold it on. kind of a shame looked like a battleship of a unit.

Too bad, they are handy to have if you don't have a front loader tractor. Moved a lot of dirt and gravel at a house we built.

havent given up; just on that one in particular. actual need wont be until next srpring so time is on my side.

I just used mine for two days cleaning the silt from my catch basin upstream from my pond. Used it on the 2N and with no stabilizer bars. Didn't have any problems at all.

Once you find one, get a hydraulic top link for use with it if you can swing it.

You will find that it is a real time/work saver when used with a slip scoop or box blade.

The scoop I have is made so stabilizer bars won't work. Don't really need them.

Dirt scoops don't bring much on sales here. I paid $6.00 for mine. Highest I've seen is $80.

Don't buy into the myth that you need stabilizer bars on everything.
I moved a Lot of dirt - tailings from where I dug out a swamp with a dragline - with my 2N and Dearborn scoop. It worked great, and I never even owned a set of stay bars untill last year I bought a set to use on a Very heavy rotary mower.

actually i have used one without stabilizer bars; thats exactly why i want to have them. when dragging no problem tracking straight. lift it and travel side hill and i worry about that much load on the limit chains. saw some pretty hard swings side to side.

appreciate the feedback anyhow.

maybe we can add the bars / no bars discusion to some of the other classics? like points vs ei; 6v vs 12v; best hydrolic oil and so on!

Evidently Harry and Henry designed a scoop to be used without stabilizer bars!

Have used one a lot without stabilizer bars and had no issues.

The Dearborn scoop that Ultradog is using has an advantage over other scoops in that is "double jointed" and you will not get "hung up" when building a pond dam or berm. When it is dumped, it will lift over what you have dumped. Others do not do that!

The only implement I use my bars on is my 4ft oneway plow, and my blade. If I had a rotary mower I would use bars with it. Mowers tend to swing all over without the bars on.
I don't use them on my 2btm plow or my two harrows.

Makes good sense. Why pay for something that doesn't suit you? Even if what you want costs more it's worth it.

Don't know why this stabilizer bar thing comes up occasionally..It's a no-brainer..If stabilizer bars can be used, use them--they can do nothing but help..
