Majic Paint

For what it worth I just used a Majic rattle can, poorest rattle can I ever used. There is an unbelievable amount of over spray. I have great luck with Ace hardware spray cans, they have that blue spray tip. TSC strikes again, always had good luck with their Valspar......

When our local TSC switched to Majic paint I had terrible results with it. Called the company and they did send me a refund.
Called TSC and complained, all they said is we will look into it. They still carry the garbage

TSC has gone to a lot of garbage stuff, use to have quality, now have China - look on the labels of the stuff they carry.

i'm not overly fond of anybodies rattle can paint.. however if i am forced to rattle something.. rustoleum has been the best i've found.

that said. majic paint has gone thru at least one transition that i know of.

first time i used it. i felt it sucked quite badly.. I gave it another chance again a month or so ago when it was on sale at tsc, and painted my 941D with it. turned out great.

when the valspar paiont became unavailable, for a while i switched to nason single stage.. loved that.. though it was more $ and it's addatives cost a bit more too.

the majic reduce is a slow-medium.. i wish it was a bit faster. you can make it faster.. but out of the can it's a lil slower than i like for outside painting. you can help that by using nason quik cure hardner for their single stage syn enamil vs the majic hardner.

Have any of you tried paints made by Van Sickle?
Says it's for tractor and equipment. Was thinking of doing the red belly with spray cans and the sheet metal with a spray gun so I can add hardener to the gray.
Working tractors, not for show, but want it to last.

I have used some of the majic rattle cans from TSC and have had amazing results. From time to time I have to paint different projects in the shop and lately we have been using Rustoleum paints with success (non rattlecan). However, not knowing the paint code for my tractor I went to TSC and tried Majic just to see the color. I was impressed with how easy the rattlecan sprayed and by the level of control I had over the paint application. With that said, I am not sure if we are using the same product manufactured in the same facility, no way of knowing that for sure... I wonder if some of the issues have to do with the applicator or faulty nozzles... For me, I will either use the gallon of majic I have already bought to paint the tractor after the engine overhaul or Nason from my local OReilly Auto. I don't really want to have to spend the $160ish per gallon for Nason if I don't have to.

I painted a few pieces to lay out in the elements and see how they weather in the sun and rain. I'd hate to take the time to disassemble and paint just to have my paint be crap in a few months.

Either way, sorry you have had issues with yours. Personally, I am in love with the colors that are coming out of my Majic can and will have it copied in Nason only if I have to.

Has anyone else painted with the non rattlecan Majic and want to share their experience as far as paint fade and pealing or rusting?

I agree, their rattle cans suck. My issue with them was drying
time. I put a coat of paint on something that was so thing I
could see through it, planning on doing a second light coat.
That first thin coat didn't get tacky for me to do the second
coat while I was in the shop, so I left it overnight.
The next day it was tacky, but not dry.
It was 70 degrees out with low humidity to boot!
I thought surely I had just gotten a bad can, so I bought
another one that was a different color. Same deal. Three
days to lay two light coats of paint and get it dry.

Their bulk paint seems to have gotten better.
$25/gallon here right now. If you buy their reducer and
hardner, that's also $25/gallon mixed.

The red I bought has held up well enough for two years. I did like how well it flowed on cast surfaces. I painted mine in the summer. My bumper was rattle can red by another company and it's fading already.

MAJIC is junk! TSC made the switch a few years ago from VALSPAR which was pretty good. I usually use TISCO which is made by Van Sickle. Economically good. I think Jimmyjack's reply below meant he was referring to TISCO, not MAJIC. I painted a trailer one summer day with MAJIC, FORD 8N RED. Next day it faded to an orange-red color.

rattle can is what it is..
I gave that new stuff from TSC a tryout.
went on ok, but I did have some compatibility issues with existing
old paints, lifting, wrinkling, etc.
My usual Rustoleum didn't.
I use Rustoleum because it is in every store I walk into, and I can follow the sales.
Have tried the ACE implement/farm stuff because a store is close.
works ok.
I really can't comment on longevity, as I usually trade them when done, and the ones I keep get so dirty I can't see the paint anyway.
