Ugly 8N followed me home (pics)

Not the prettiest tractor to look at, especially at first glance.
It wouldn't start for the owner and he needed it out of his way
to make room for some really sweet Chevies. '57 Bel-Airs.

Ignition switch was bad. It actually runs quite well. The tin's in
pretty good shape. Has a decent set of multi-ribs on the front
and a nice matched pair of 11.2 x 28's on fairly new 6 loop rims
with Fergy centers. 3 PT and PTO seem to work fine.

Both rear rims/centers are covered in grease from the leaky axle
seals. One radius rod bent, front axle pin bad, PTO shaft leaks a bit.

I haven't had time to look for the brand names or take pictures
of the implements, but it came with a reversible scoop, 5 ft rotary
mower, 6 ft back blade, an extremely heavy spring tooth
cultivator/harrow and a 3 foot section of spring tooth harrow.
(what we around here call a drag, not 3 pt) I'll try to get some
pictures of those tomorrow if the rain allows.

It was an hour away, but he gave me a good deal at $1000.
He threw in the stabilizer bars, 3 top links, a couple of gallons
of 134 UTF and a coffee can full of draw pins/hitch pins.
Just couldn't pass it up. Guess I needed another project.

Sure is ugly, but that thing was a steal!!!

Good tires, good tin, everything works.

Jeez, some folks have all the luck...

Well done Royse!!!

Good deal! Looks better than the one I brought home Sunday. Mine has a dual range hupp and recently rebuilt engine. Loader will go in the scrap pile! Paid $685 for it and gave him an allis c that was in a million pieces that cost me nothing but working on a 9n.

Sell the loader. Even if you only get $100 for it.
That'll pay for the fuel to go get the tractor, etc.
Those hydraulic cylinders are surely worth something.
I wish you had saved me the starter off that C! LOL

Congrats on another score Royse. You know, they would stop following you home if you'd quit driving around the countryside with a flatbed trailer and a wad of cash.

Crap I forgot! He probably wouldn't have even noticed it missing beings he didn't notice the seat wasn't there. That's true about the loader. The cylinders don't leak so maybe make a log splitter. I need the hoses for another loader. Brought home a nice Dearborn cultivator, mint 2 bottom Ferguson plow, disc, 6ft blade, and Erskine type snowblower all for 750 Saturday too. Same place we got the allis.

"Jeez, some folks have all the luck... "

Luck is right JC, some good, some bad. LOL
I forgot to mention that the trailer ride home rattled a
leak in the radiator. Top right corner on the aft side.
Not a hose, not the overflow.
It was not leaking when I loaded it.
At least it leaks bright green, clean antifreeze.

Clutch is a bit jumpy too. I'm hoping it is rusty from
setting all summer, but it could be oil. Don't know yet.

Great deals for both of you.
Thanks for posting. Keeps the hopes up that good deals are still out there.

Royce, looks like a perfect hunting camp tractor as is.
Park it in the woods......invisible :D

Lisa, like Royce, I need to get it in gear and post more 'wanted'
ads over to the left. I could have used that 'C' head....next time.

I knew I was doing something wrong!
I did see a dozen others for sale on the way there and back.
Including a $3000 9N. If you're looking to get another one I
can point you in their direction!

Thanks, but there's a 8N on my way to/from work that's already calling my name. So far I'm resisting but......

Like my Daddy said of one his best friends (and my boss of several years!), "he could fall face first into an outdoor sh?t ho!se and come out with a cold beer in one hand and a ham sandwich in the other"!! Some people just seem to have that touch!!We got lucky one time!! Daddy and the same fellow were in Richmond, Va. one time doing the go rounds of used truck parts places for some old Mack parts and saw an old 250 Bultaco motorcycle for sale. Daddy made an offer (low of course!) and the guy took it!! They loaded it in the trunk of a Buick Electra 225 and brought it home!! ran the bike on motocross and flat tracks for 3-4 years before getting a sponsored ride on flat track with a Honda 250 Elsinore, one fast ride for its time!! Clean that tractor up, go through it and it'll be good for a loonngg time!

I have found only 3 types of tractors.
1. those that look good/run bad
2. those that look bad/run good
3. and the very rare look good/run good

The fourth category is where mine fell when I got it. Looks rough and does not run at all.

Here are some pics of the implements.
The sticker with the name brand is mostly missing from
the scoop, but the safety warning stickers are still on it.

What's left of the sticker on the rotary mower looks like
it says Big Bee 540. Rust on the top, but surprisingly
no holes. Looks like I might need to replace a seal.

The back blade is an Arps 6 foot.

The drag section will bolt right up to my other ones like it.
Might be Farmall, but not sure. Way too old for stickers. LOL

Anyone recognize that cultivator/harrow in the last picture?

LR;
The harrow on the trailer looks very much like a Ferg..BO-A 21 or 31.....(just one set of the gang.....without the spades on the tines>

A friend of mine has one very similar to the last pic., and he told me once that his was a Dearbourne spring tooth but did not have any mod. tag or # on it!!!
