water in oil

Tell us how you discovered that.

In other words, is it normal condensation from not getting the engine up to operating temp to evaporate the water which occurs normally, or are you running the tractor w/o a t-stat?

Or did you change the oil & saw a lot of water?

Or something else?

i been losing a little water and its been setting a while and i decided to check antifreeze and it was low so i pulled the dipstick to see if it had any water in it and it did.

Antifreeze in the oil will kill an engine quickly. The only way I know that water can get into the oil on an N engine is if you have a crack in the block. I had a similar problem. I drained the oil and with the drain plug out let it set overnight. When I came back the next day there was a green drop of antifreeze hanging from the oil drain hole. I pulled the engine took it apart and had the block magnafluxed at a machine shop. A crack was found that could not be fixed. Good luck. Hope you have better luck than I did.

Does the tractor have a t-stat installed? (see tip # 25)

If not, install one.

You could have a cracked block.

Or, a leaky radiator cap & condensation in the oil.

Drain the oil. Then put a quart or so of the used oil in a glass jar & set it on your work bench. Let it set for a couple of days & then see how much water is in it.

can you see the green coolant int he oil?

if so, then you have a few things to do.

I have had the oil pans off and pressurized the cooling system and looked up under them to look for leaks.. that's at least one way..

Bruce is right,as usual. If you're running water in your radiator, your assumption may be right. If not, then I'd add some leak checker that shows up in a black light, and add it to the radiator, then run it and check your oil. If it shows up on the black light, you can be sure that it's leaking into your oil somehow.I've used this stuff to find oil leaks and coolant leaks. lha

A strange thing happened to my 9n. It's last oil change.I found two drops of antifreeze in the oil.

I had the tractor for four years it smoked a little(blue smoke) and changed the oil every other year with no antifreeze in the oil.

I tore mine a part one winter and found a ring broken on #3 cylinder. I replaced the all the rings and #3 sleeve only. Also had the crank shaft ground with new 20 under bearings. Did not find any signs of antifreeze in the oil pan or crankcase.

Then I had a bad summer with kidney stones and missed the 9n's next oil change.

When I did get it changed. The oil was clean when it came out. but in the bottom of the drain plug I found two very small drops of antifreeze.I don't know if I did something or if I undid a repair someone else did years a go. I filled it back up with oil and put stop leak in the coolant. Next spring it will be time for it's next oil change. I've been watching the radiator and the dip stick. mine has not changed any yet.

you could also run the engine and look for bubbles coming into the radiator, could be a cracked head.
Could be a cracked liner to.
Bad head gasket and as mentioned a cracked block.

No he jumped to fudgen with it and did not get answer's that are needed info to properly diagnosis it but the as usual part is correct...

After flushing out my radiator I started to lose a lot of coolant from the rad and my oil pan was getting way over full not to mention oil looked like vanilla pudding.

Lifted the head and #1 cylinder had about 1/2 cup of water sitting on the piston. #2 had about 1/4 cup. Least I knew the rings were sealing. Decided to change head gasket first since it was easiest which fixed the issue..

I never lost water while just sitting unlike urself, Seems like you may have a crack somewhere. Hopefully just in the head.
